A while back, I stumbled across a truly wonderful essay on AOTC that I just glanced through again tonight. I thought I would share it with the group:

http://www.lardbiscu...ard/shroud.html

The author has also written an essay on TPM (discussed in another thread in here) and will be eventually writing another long piece on ROTS.

Check out especially "Episode IV" of the essay (i.e. the first part), which is a broad overview of the symbolism of the movie. It's really fantastic. To give one quick example, the essay points out two references to problems with Anakin's breathing that are mentioned in connection to his relationship to Padme.

Very insightful and not to be missed!

That's interesting stuff. Thing is, I can't help thinking Lucas's reaction would be something like;

"erm, yeah, but did you see all the flashing lights and funny looking aliens?"

that was a pretty interesting detailed and way long read... All of what the author said in the article was pretty valid and I think if it was explained just a little better by lucas in the movies the PT would be so much better. The basic plot points in the PT aren't bad it's just how they are presented that is bad.

phew, i thought id never make it through that dissertation. but you know i LOVED it! some of the points made, however, are convoluted and cant be attributed to any intention on the writers part. though overall it was turly a brilliant work, it makes me seem a little sloppy and silly when i compare his essays to mine. yet, i feel validated in that we share very similar concepts, and reach similar conclusions, that were formed independantly.

thanks for posting that link, darththerion!

Here is another great article, this one specifically about the politics and economics of AOTC, and of Star Wars as a whole...http://www.chass.uto...nne/clones.html

Reading through both essays on I and II, I must say that I agree on almost everything. And I consider myself middle of the road leaning towards hatred of the PT. The problem is that the movies could only sort of do it for me on the first viewing. After that it was a downward spiral. The brilliance of the films is hidden by a facade of sheer stupidity. I thoroughly enjoy each of the OT films each time that I watch them. My main problem with what he has written is that he expects the film following to do all of the explaining and expounding. To him, TPM was the set up for a one, two punch resulting in a knockout. The problem is that each successive film fails to deliver.
Apparently writing about JM here is his secret weakness. Muwahaha!!!! Now I have leverage over him and am another step closer towards my goal of world domination.

"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

Kurgan X showed me this web comic done with Legos. It pokes fun at all six Star Wars films and I found it to be extremely entertaining.
