Like Slade said, I don't use it much, preferring talking my way through, or failing that using my sniping perk to remove their eyes from a hundred paces.

That's pretty much how I played, except I put more emphasis on sniping.

What can I say, I'm a wimp. :P

Actually, I combined sniping, hacking (Science skill) and doctoring (for the implants) with a ridiculously low charisma (2). I thought I'd have more problems because of my ugly mug, but the blokes I was pointing my guns at didn't complain a lot.

I always play with a hight science and doctor. But I don't like sacrificing charisma, those NPC slots are too precious to waste.

I only came across 2 NPCs that were worth having: Vic and Cassidy. All the other characters had one or more basic problems which made me kick 'em out of the team ASAP: Sulik hit me more often than the enemy, Marcus got chopped up all the time because of the lack of armour, Lenny was a pussy with weapons, the enemy cuts through the spouses you are hitched with in the hillbilly town like hot knife through butter, and the less spoken about Myron the better. Did I leave anyone out?

Vic and Cassidy are great, and Sulik is the best form of armour in the game. Takes a lot of bullets to take him down. Just make sure he's in front and not behind you. I personally like the dogs, they loose a lot of their usefulness in the late game, but they're fast and have good armour, so they tend to distract fire. Oh, you also forgot Skynet. I find he's not all that useful for the same reason as Marcus: He walks so slowly that the battles generally over by the time he reaches it. But it's still neat to bring him along. Oh, and the Deathclaw of course. I forget his name, but it's fun to have him throw of his cloak and tear your opponents to pieces.

Skynet? Who the fuck is Skynet?

The deathclaw, yeah, he was sort of useful (until he got ground up by those guys in power armour), but it was really annoying having to watch him remove/put on/remove/put on his robe all the time when you enter or exit a combat.

Skynet is the robot AI thing you find in one of the abandoned laboratories. It's a flagrant nod to the Terminator films as well, of course.

Hard, yes, but well worth it. It was full of excellent weapons.

having two robodogs was always awsome. and a wife... well... yeah.
"please keep your distance in battle"
"but awww. honey, I wanna be with you."

she never lasted long. and yet i always felt bad when she died.

they mention dogmeat, who i think only sticks with you in his hometown. There's also a lame cow that does the same thing if you fix its ankle. That's a shitfight when you've got a full team in a small house. (especially on eiwth a long corridor)

Is there an XP compatible Fallout 2? and are they hard to find nowadays? Never played it before and I want to give it a shot.

Yeah, Fallout 2 runs fine in XP. I don't know any legitimate places you can find it, though. It's apparently not abandonware, though it really should be.

Isohunt would be your best bet.

I found Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics together for $50 last year in my local Electronic Boutique.
