so i saw ep III in the theatre the other day (for the 4th time) and i noticed that there are four dots (....) at the end of the prolouge. the i watched ep IV on dvd (for the bazillionth time) and saw that there were only three dots (...). i havent checked yet, but i think the dots vary throughout the orgiginal version, spec edition, dvd, PT and especially the video games.

Should be an interesting reading whistling.gif ...
I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

Wow, I didn't notice that. A typo in the opening crawl??

It'll probably be fixed by the DVD release.

Excuse me as I put on my borrowed fanboy cap.

There! The differing number of periods is a symbolic statement about the failing grammatical system of our country. Not many people know this, but not only is George Lucas a masterful filmmaker, and a philanthropist, but he is an avid grammartician, and he is deeply offended by the lack of thought given to grammar in daily life. He is a good man ..... crying.gif ..... sick.gif ...... laugh.gif

Several Ad folks I know view "ellipses", or "dot-dot-dots" as hackneyed.

Therefore, Lucas can present as many as he damn well.........

pleases.

Ellipses are properly used thus.

If the ellipsis ends a sentence it should have four dots - the fourth dot is essentially a period.

If the ellipsis is in the middle of a sentence it should have three because there is no period.

Simple, eh?

Was the extra dot animated the old fashioned way or CGI? Maybe it was there to discourage laser pointer guy, who upon hitting it, would spontaniously combust into nothingness....

I bet on the DVD if we make liberal use of the digital zoom feature, we'll discover that this extra white dot is actually a paragraph of text, that, when read, reveals a satisfactory and logical explanation for all of the inconsistencies we've brought up on this site. Lucas truly cares for us after all... thanks George!
