Now, this may become really boring, really quickly BUT...............................

Stemming from the american/english girls discussion, I wanted to ask all the non-Britons out there what you actually think Britain is like. Oh, and also what telly programmes from the UK you've seen.

(Bearing in mind that it actually is more like 'Little Britain' than you'd think!) sick.gif

Well, as far as I can tell, it rains..... happy.gif

Edit: Sorry, I forgot my shows...I have seen a lot of the mysteries and comedies that are on PBS or A&E; shows like Pride & Prejudice, Emma and Sense and Sensibility, etc.

I've watched a fair amount of British TV. A number of mysteries, Poirots, Holmes, Miss Marples, etc. Also To the Manor Born and some other sitcoms.

I've always assumed Britain is like a tidier urban US sort of place. You don't have the same minority issues, so the slums and less well off areas are somewhat different I'd guess. It's a lot smaller than the US, so you're probably more crammed together in general. Your suburbs probably don't have as much as three acres of land to a house like ours do.

He He, this kind of thing amuses me greatly. Well, Cyzyk, for a start we do have minority issues, I think. I presume you mean a lot of ethnic minorities in cities?

Well, there are a lot of Asian people in the bigger towns and cities, and African or West Indian people too. BUt in my view that's pretty cool, cos it just enhances the culture of any area, and eventually people spread into the community and Britain becomes more culturally diverse.

And yeah you are right, in suburbia you dont get three acres of garden!! We are more squooshed up than America and our roads and cars are smaller!
In fact, everything is a bit smaller, portions of food, houses, waistbands!!! He He.

Oh and the sky ain't a giant Union Jack, but it does rain a lot!

Has anyone not from Britain got a question for me? blink.gif

It's funny how much American television we get over here, but you have to watch PBS or whatever to see our programmes.

Watching Poirot and Miss Marple, you must get a very funny idea of life here.

Oh, I have a question for you. I was talking to a nice old gentleman from England and he said that the higher education system doesn't focus so much on people having Masters (i.e. education, etc) in a particular area, but instead having Bachelors in several different areas. Do you know if this is correct?

I just get the impression that GB is all smooshed together and there's lots of people who like the queen, despite the fact that all she does is sit around.

It's hilly over there, right?

And I've seen Monty Python and some documentary about LOTR.

If you've never been to USA, what do you think it's like over here?

Not meaning to be rude Amyjay, but is this thread for England, or Great Britian? You switched countries a few times (I'm a known adgitator on this issue.)

From what I've learned, there are people there. And I apparently sound like an english/great britain-ish person, so I guess that means everyone sounds like me. I am now visualising a country called "The People's Republic of Otal"

I always thought that England was an tear in the space time continum. How can you guys have so many urban areas and a vast country side all in one tiny island?

Also, how many people actually talk like Peirce Brosman, Hugh Grant, or the bloody Queen of England?

Much of what I know of England comes from Monty Python. Therefore I believe that in England, the Spanish Inquisition bursts in at unexpected times to poke you with pillows.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....

Great Britain and England are exactly the same thing, like France and Portugal.
