Blech. When I'm tired, I start free associating to a ridiculous extent. It starts with just hearing statements in my head that don't make sense, but it ends with me believing them, until I get to the point where although I'm still writing out Chinese characters, I'm also battling the social injustice of the fact that one stroke must be in a certain position. There was also a subplot about a girl and a dog, although I don't remember it very well. My perception of reality just gets more and more skewed until I can't actually tell when I'm falling asleep.

Generally, if you can't remember what the activity you are doing is called, it's sort of unlikely to be sucessful. Which is really unfortunate given the amount of work that needs to be done by tomorrow.

Don't put down the slackers, some of us need stress to work well. sad.gif I find if I have too much time for a project, I don't put in as much effort as I do when the time constraints are a little tighter -- but then again, that's how I work, haha.

I hope the photo shoot doesn't cause any future drama for you. sad.gif

Well see, that's the thing, they have had a good amount of time for past projects, and have so slacked off all semester. This project, we have a smaller time restraint (rather, did until he changed it) but they still slacked off, so no one was going to have their shit on critique day except me and this other chick. I mean, they hadn't even taken pictures, two days before it was due. I don't think people should be rewarded for not doing any work until the original due date is past.

Yes, I realize this, and I understand that. But this is a class of 16 people, and of those 16 people, I and one other person have gotten their stuff done.

One person's mom was just admitted to the hospital because her breast cancer came back. I feel for this girl and think every allowance in the world should be made for her. Things like this, or even the girl who just couldn't get a model until yesterday, I understand. But the rest of them don't have valid reasons, and they all get this reward anyway. I know these people, and have other classes with them, and have classes with their friends - and we talk. Half of my classmates have admitted that they just don't care about this class, or something of the sort. I don't think I've seen but maybe 3 people consistently show up to class - more than half the class has been to less than half the classes. I would seriously understand an extension if the extension weren't made because people just didn't show up to class or to the open studio hours. This isn't even the first time this has happened, but at least last time he gave an extension, it was only two days, and the crit was moved to a day we have class anyway. I feel like I've wasted time and effort by actually showing up to class and getting my work done on time.

I'm not mad at or attacking or complaining about those that have valid reasons for not being able to complete the workload by the original deadline. It's the fact that the majority of my classmates definitely could have made the deadline, they just chose to not, and some even openly admit that they just don't care enough to push themselves that little bit (because photo isn't their major); and yet my professor gives them an advantage that I don't get, because I was nearly finished (and stressed to the max trying to get it done) by the time he announced the change in the crit date.

And it's not like I'm a horrible person and the only one upset about this. The other person that got the work done is pissed right along with me, as is the girl that will be done by tomorrow afternoon and only couldn't get done because of her model issues. The graduate assistant (who happens to be older than my professor, and actually has been here longer and so kinda has more sway in some areas than he does) has been pissed about this kinda thing since the beginning of the year, when kids stopped showing up to class and he made the first crit extension.

So the entire class sans two people all found non-slacking reasons to not do any work on their projects to the point where the professor gave up and extended the deadline so all of them could get it done? It sounds like a group of lazy people taking advantage of a total softee of a teacher, to me, and I'd be pissed if a deadline got put off after I was already done working like crazy on the project because no one else in my entire class could be bothered to get it done. If the project was some insanely crazy thing that required a ton of work and these kids were freshmen, I could maybe understand it, while at giving the students who took the time to DO THEIR WORK ON TIME some sort of extra credit.

Complaint: My car wouldn't start this morning, so I couldn't make it to work. I'm pretty sure I left the lights on for the first time ever. >< I need to now go walk a mile to mail a check and turn in a forum for scholarship money.

Thanks, Slade. Yeah, no freshmen in this class - not even any sophomores. All juniors, seniors, super-seniors, and grads. And he is a total softy of a teacher, though I like him in every other respect.

And I have another complaint: I'm working my butt off and my apartment echoes with the sounds of the dudes next door banging on their Rock Band drums, and singing their Rock Band songs. Badly. pinch.gif If they're going to play that loud, at the very least, they could invite me to play! tongue.gif

A woman at my work complains about her job too, and I'm a supervisor there. I'm almost tempted to say;

"You know that? Your wish is granted -- you can go home and never EVER come back!"
