Two days-ish ago, a student at my highschool hit her head on a rock and suffered a heart attack while on a school camping trip (But juniors and seniors don't go, so I wasn't there). There are only 150 people in the school, so everyone knows everyone pretty well. Consequently, I'm in the strange position of being in the middle of a school where absolutely everyone is grieving. I'm sure in the long run this'll be good for all of us, but for now I have to contend with just general guilt, plus some extra guilt for not feeling miserable enough. Death is a tricky thing to get your head around, and I don't know how to react just yet.

What bugs me most is that reporters keep showing up. I feel like maybe this isn't quite the time.

The legal issues this opened up for the school must be horrifying. I'm sorry, Mirithorn. Although you have to admit it seems kind of strange. If I hit my head on a rock, I think my head would be hurting, not my heart.

It actually doesn't, because she was on a school camping trip at the time at one of those team building place-things and had already signed a waiver. There's the possibility that it was precipitated by starvation, too, although there won't be an autopsy.

I wasn't exactly a friend of hers, but she was in a couple of classes with me, and most people tend to interact with most people. There's only 150 people in the school, there's not much possibility that I didn't.

Complaint: AAARGH FRIGGING AP BIOLOGY WHOSE DUMB IDEA WAS THIS?!?! And by AP biology I mean, of course, the University introductory course which fails to a huge extent to follow any standardized curriculum. Basically, the guy just stands at the front of the room and shows slide shows which assume more previous knowledge of genetics than I have. It doesn't matter if you read the textbook- the two chapters he assigns of it all year. The tests are on what is covered in class, which is almost totally independent of the textbook. Apparently, they're really hard.

Of course, there's also a lab section worth 40% of my grade, with prelabs that consist of reading incomprehensible articles about concentrations of trees (as far as I can tell). There's a lab report due tomorrow on a lab we never actually did. I don't really understand the point of the lab, or, indeed, how to make graphs on the computer, and I'm not sure how kindly my TF would take to shaky hand drawn graphs with best fit line determined by whatever I feel like making it. There are occasional quizzes. So far I've failed all of them.

What I want to know is why on earth a school that is supposedly rooted firmly in the humanities requires every single student to take Bio 107 at BU. Why can't we have a class for dumb people like me? I feel discriminated against.

And like starting a career at Wallmart, because I probably won't graduate from highschool anyway, at this rate. angry.gif

Some idiot soccer mom almost made me T-bone her huge SUV when she whipped out in front of me to make a left hand turn when she had a stopsign and I had the right of way on a residential road, and there was no one behind me. The more I go out in the world again, the more I'm reminded of how much I hate people. Individuals are fine, but those damned people. AARGH. ><

Totally disappointed again:

(1) Damaged drives have not been received by the seller and I wasn't given a receipt (stupid me) so now:

I bought for eight drives for them to be:

Battered up by A Problematic Courier
Now for someone probably steal it or get lost down the post.

I have to waste time trying to claim my money back from that false ant of a Post Office that pretends to be Loyal to its workers.

(2) One of my Enermax power supplies blew inside.
I discovered just now that an extension lead and some plug leads blew fuses upon connection.

I tested another plug lead onto a different appliance which worked.
I plugged it in the power supply and I was shocked with a loud light bang noise with sparks flying out on the other end. I had this power supply since November 2006.

Now I have to CLAIM for things I paid for.
I don't GET to experiment with my other serverboard on the table as I have no power supply of the same type. It had to be used in the place of that faulty one.

Miserables the word miseries the game.

Nobody contributes to my Sarcastic thread for virtual conversations so I will make it exclusive only for me to post as if nobody existed. Only good if nobody posts in that mode.

Now I better find something interesting to do.
Maybe to try to generate some more insane stupid conversations.

By pretending that nobody is there then I will perform better until someone responds and messes it up.

So we did a raku firing today, and apparently I am VERY allergic to the smoke (I'm slightly allergic to regular ol' campfire or cig smoke, but the yellow smoke that poured forth out of this was killer). And now the smoke is soaked into my clothes, hair, and skin, and I can't get back to my apartment to shower and change until 5, so I'm basically allergic to myself until then. My eyes are nearly swollen shut, it's ridiculous. I'm just glad I thought to wear my glasses today or it'd be that much worse. And I stink like a chain-smoker.

Never again will I be involved in a raku firing. sad.gif
I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.
