Blonde haired women seem very prevalent in marketing and movies now a days... or women who are brunettes or red heads who dye their hair blonde. It's kind of sickening, really.

Why do you feel that our society has this blonde fetish?

Huh? Didn't this thing come up in the Movie forum too?

Anyway, I don't really think so.

Because a good friend of mine is blonde, and she punches people who say they don't like her.

I don't know, I;m not a fan of blonde hair. Give me long and raven-black, curly and red, plain ole' brown instead (though sometimes it works). There's nothing worse than seing someone with perfectly nice non-blonde hair died blonde.

Ironically enough, I've never been out with a proper blonde in my life, although I doubt that it was a conscious decision. However, as to the threads question, the words "blonde = more innocent" come to mind, for some reason.

Ironically enough if you live in UK, or in Poland, there are very few men in general who were out with a "proper" blonde. Blond hair, just like blue eyes, are recessive genes and the majority of blondes you can see in the streets are just dyed/bleached/peroxided and what not.

The most prevalent colour for "Caucasians" (God, I hate that word) i.e. people native in our regions is mousy light brown (like mine).

And this is not very flattering colour, believe me. Hence the booming trade of hair dyes.

Personally, I don't find blonde hair that attractive at all. However, this may be because I associate blonde hair with innocence subconsciously, and I'm more a fan of the good ol' vixen.

I quite like blonde, as long as it's not dyed. I find it very pretty, I am hoping to find another blonde female to have offspring with in the future purely for genetic reasons. But I won't go seeking out blondes, I'd rather have a foreigner any day of the week. My people need new blood, we've been so long on this Island that everyone is growing far too closely related to be comfortable.

I didn't know blondes were preferable... I thought it was just an 80s thing...

Corvax: Come live in Aus. My hair's mousey-boring, but it has blonde streaks in it from the sun.

I thought about it.. Blonde streaks as well as moving to Australia.

However, sun gives you both blonde streaks and premature wrinkles. Not to mention other, nastier things.
So I rinse my hair in gentle solution of hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice. Doesn't seem to be working, but it doesn't do any harm, either.

One more thing - blonde hair does make you look younger. I've observed it on several examples, my mother is one. She really looks ages younger and nicer with light hair. Perhaps that is why blondes seem to be preferable.

What, so men are pedophiles?

As I mentioned before, my friend has natural blonde hair. Actually, it starts crown at the top and gets blonder. She wouldn't die her hair. She hates people who do that.

Not quite, however, our society seems to value youth more in women than in men.

It is ok for men to look old. They don't lose their attractiveness one bit. Whereas women do. An old woman has a slightly ridiculous image in our society. "Old bag", "old pipe", "old boot", these utterances all concern women mostly, aren't they? So, women feel compelled to retain their youth more than men. They go to greater lenghts.

Very few celebrity women choose to "age gracefully" Most are desperate to look younger. Looking younger will mean more and bigger contract, beacuse otherwise they'll go to their younger looking colleagues. It is normal for actors over fifty to land substantial roles, but it is not the same for women.

It is sad and unfair, but that is how it is.

Absofuckinglutely. Which is one reason I don't want to be an actress. It's shite. Perceptions are still male-oriented.

And Otal - I'm sure that if my hair was blonde from root to tip, I could afford to look down on people who dye their hair too. Although I am currently considering a red-green combo.
