During the funeral procession for Padme, she still has the 'pregnant belly'. Any thoughts on this?? Is this necessary? Who else knew she was pregnant??

I thought Yoda and Obi-Wan decided to keep her to look pregnant so that everyone would assume the children died....right?

I'm out...

The bump doesn't just "go away" after the birth. It takes a while.

I'm no doctor, but after a female has twins or just one child, the belly is reduced significantly. She basically lost ~ 14 - 18 lbs from her belly. In the funeral shot she looks as pregnant as ever.

As darth_newmacer stated they wanted her to look pregnant so it would appear the baby (babies) had died as well.

This was prob. the only good part of the story. The only one that was interesting and made me say to myself.... Clever. Now Vader will think his kid is dead.

True, but why does the newly crowned Emperor (Palpatine) believe this so readily? He is the geezer whom Ben refers to in ROTJ "The Emperor knew, as I did, if Anakin were to have any offspring, they would be a threat to him." So why then would a Sith Master who knew that the future is always in motion, not want check out the body himself and see if the kids had been born or not? Why didn't it cross his mind that the Jedi would pull a trick like this? Why didn't the Emperor check out why Bail Organa turned up with a baby AT THE EXACT TIME that one of his closest friends had just died in child birth?

P.S. why is Ben referring to Luke and Leia as offspring instead of younglings?

I think he heard himself, and saw how much of an dumbass it made him (and everyone who said it) appear, plus if I were Luke and some old spirit guy called me a "youngling" I'd shit my pants, but thats just me...

Dudes, my mum had a baby a couple of months ago, and it took about a week for the bump to disappear. For a couple of days she still looked completely pregnant.

it takes time for a woman to lose her belly after the baby is born, especially twins. Not to mention it was all set up that way. Yes you instantly lose weight after the baby is born but the muscles of the stomach take time to tighten back up therefore causing you to still appear pregnant.

Good point. The pregnancy was supposed to be secret. Not to mention if a woman dies that late in pregnancy, don't they at least try a caesarian? But then she died 'of a broken heart'. Bah. Lucas laughs in the director's commentary that the first Death Star took 20 years to build because they had supply and labor problems. Basically, he just makes this crap up as he goes.

Or maybe the stupid Gungans left her body out in the heat and it started to decompose. Or she died of food poisoning on Anakin's trip, and what you see is intestinal bloating? Wasted opportunity for Lucas to "pay homage" to an episode of 'The Young Ones' :-)

Postpartumpregnabelly, or pppb as the doctor's abbreviation goes, is a common symptom when one has lost the will to live, which is a serious and very believable medical condition.

This is true. Ask any PT Medical Droid.

Medical Droid: "It's as if she's lost her will to live"
Obi-won: "You have no idea at all, do you?"
Medical Droid: "None at all, Sir. But if it helps, my programming lets me feign empathy."
Obi-won: "Well could you at least do that?"
Medical Droid: "Of course, Sir. Ahem. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

OT Medical Droids on the other hand can actually help you. Otherwise this would happen:

Medical Droid: "What seems to be the problem, Sir?"
Luke: "My hand was chopped off"
Medical Droid: "That's right, Sir. It's as if your hand has lost its will to be attached to your arm."
