There's something almost precious in the lengths to which Lucasfilm has gone to give all of these insignificant and often obnoxious characters some semblance of life through marketing, advertising (get your Nute Gunray Pepsi can!), and these ridiculous little biographies on the Star Wars website. Maybe it's pure cynicism but I get the feeling that Lucas genuinely thinks he's created a work of art for the ages and that eventually we'll remember Elan Sleazebaggano and Captain Panaka the way we remember even the minor characters from the Odyssey.

I would have to say that the winner of biggest Douche in the Star Wars Universe has to be that blue thing that hangs around with Palpatine in Attack of the Clones.

I don't mind the ETs. They are just background fillers with no lines, beacuase almost every character that said at least a line was annoying.

I didn't even noticed the ETs until a friend told me about them.

But don't you see the huge problem with ETs? It's not how major a role they play to the plot or if they are noticeable. They bridge the gap between our universe and the Star Wars universe. It shows a creature who has clearly visited Earth. Sure, we don't know the timeline of the events but it opens the possibility that the ETs have shared the location of Earth with the rest of the Star Wars galaxy. That is completely unacceptable!

For me, the ET's appear to be the kind of thing that an amateur filmmaker might do, or something that someone making a parody might pull. "Heh heh, look what we did, we put ET in the senate. Heh heh heh." NOT the kind of thing that you would expect (hopefully) from a professional making a serious picture (that he will later use as a vehicle for his political leanings) that he wants to be taken seriously! One time when I was like eleven I made a film and it had a ninja turtle doing the weather for the news. Had nothing to do with the plot, but I thought it was pretty dang funny.

And besides, I hate ET.
"The problem is, you're not a kangaroo... that's a bear... and he's in your pants."
"Maybe artists shouldn't talk about their art."
"Well kids, I guess your father isn't a hermaphrodite."
"Izzy! enough with the rabid smootching!!"

as for ET, now, just for fun, lets say that the ET we see in the senate isnt the ET from the movie ET, but rather an ET that looks exactly like that ET. i mean, after all, there are friggin humans in star wars! and horses, and ducks; how does ET bridge that gap if they dont?

Enough with the ETs. They were a cheap attempt by Lucas to tip his cap to a FAR SUPERIOR filmmaker in Steven Speilberg.

And how are we to believe that the aliens are not ET himself after all, PT has Chewbacca, baby Greedo, the Milienuim Falcon, Jabba the Hutt, CP3PO etc, etc,
I love Chefelfs comment about the Kassyk senators: either they are relatives of Chewbacca or THREE Chewbaccas himself.
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

I never thought the ETs were actually the E.T. from the movie. However, the inclusion bridges the Earth-Star Wars Universe gap.

The reason I think that humans and ducks (although I don't like their inclusion) don't do the same is the reason that oceans, trees, grass and desserts don't really interfere with the Star Wars universe. They're simply using our universe as a template to create their universe.

Including a fictional Earth character from outside that universe throws a monkeywrench in the works in a way that humans and ducks just don't.

I sort of agree, but I have to admit the snakes and lizards in ESB were kind of out of place. But I understand you have to play with the cards you are dealt with. Plus they have no bearing on the plot. But the ETs are just plain stupid. I wish Speilberg would sue him for copyright infringement...just kiddin gushers....

i never meant to imply you thought the star wars ETs were the same individuals from the movie ET; i only theorize that they were two distinct alien races, form different galaxies, with striking resemblances...at any rate, i was just teasing. tongue.gif

If the SW Universe and our universe have a thread of connection via the Eys who know where we are and how to get here, that means that a Death Star is on its way here! Run!

Now that you mention the snakes and lizards, I'm kind of surprised that George Lucas didn't replace them with some wildly absurd looking CGI abomination.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

I don't mind the ET's because there are so many stupid things in the movie that a couple of ET's really don't hurt me as Jar Jar does. The ET's cameo is stupid, but why can't Earth be in the same universe of Star Wars? I mean, the Star Wars galaxy can be millions and millions of lightyears away from. Why not?

And I never noticed them because I always fall asleep in that scene.

ya really, whats the point of saying "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" if its not just another galaxy but a whole seperate universe? if its a diffenrent universe, the opening scrawl should say, "at this exact same moment in a dimension very, very parallel" or, you know, something like that

on that note, i agree with darth player, "run, you fools, RUN!"

I hate Tarrrful. Why? Because its the perfect example of Lucas throwing useless characters to the movie to make an action figure out of them.
