Old Republic scientist had invented cloining technology hundreds of years before the stories we (unfortunately) see on movie screens today. However, some of the test clones were unstable and prone to strange mutations, so the senate quickly banned the technology across the galaxy. About 50 years later, The Old Republic started receiving reports of strange, armor-clad warriors attacking some of the outer-rim worlds. When they send a team to investigate, they are quickly overwhelmed by hundreds of MANDALORIAN WARRIORS (yes, the same place where Boba gets his armor). The Republic immediately retaliates by sending it's entire fleet against the invaders and soon discovers that the dreaded Mandalorians have uncovered the secrets to the Republic's old cloning technologies and have been mass-producing their soldiers (so the clones are the BAD GUYS in the original tale) After decades of fighting, the Jedi and the Republic defeat the Mandalorians, but at heavy losses. Where once there were thousands of Jedi roaming the galaxy, now less than 100 remain. With the severe destruction caused to so many worlds during the Clone Wars, trust in the Old Republic's governing body and its Jedi defenders is at an all time low. This gives a young senator named Palpatine his chance to turn the people against the Jedi and the politicians against each other. With so few Jedi remaining, it is easy for his new apprentice, Darth Vader. to hunt down and destroy the rest of the Jedi.

Holy asteroids, why didn't Lucas use this as the basic plot of his prequels (maybe changing the name of the Mandalorians) instead of what we actually got?

Because Lucas is a moron! Come on inconsistencies about clones, trade federations, crappy amphibians, the sith, the jedi, and the origins of Vader as well as terrible dialogue, stupid aliens (Diner alien in particular), constant and nausauating references to the OT (im suprised we didnt see a Jedi get killed by a Sith Wampa while riding a Taun-Taun), special effects that the galaxy look way more advanced than it was in the OT, and many other crappy things ARE much better than a coherent, consistent, and interesting story!
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

Who says every damn clone has to be the same damn clone of one person? I was genuinely expecting to see Obi-Wan have to fight at least one clone of himself - a non-Jedi clone, since Jedi powers should not be clonable

I know back when I was little and first heard of Obi-Wan and Luke discussing the "Clone Wars"...I imagined that the Jedi were the ones being cloned somehow and all of the real Jedi had to wipe out the fake Jedi....or something. Hell, I wasa kid and being a kid means that your logic doesnt have to make sense. biggrin.gif

Well, back when the old Clone Wars story was still circulating, there were theories that Obi-wan himself was a clone -

Obi-Wan = OB-1 (like a desigination #).

I'm kinda glad they didn't go that route, but hell ... I can't think of anyway to mess up Star Wars more than the route they chose for the prequels. The prequels are almost bad enough and ridiculous enough to be Star Wars parodies.
- helping to bring down the Lucas empire ... one post at a time.

i wish it were clearly stated in the movies, but come on, stormtroopers arnt clonetroopers...you see, if stormtroopers were clonetroopers then they wouldnt be called stormtroopers, they'd be called clonetroopers. well, i guess that is pretty clearly stated.

so i recently watched ep II with comentary; something i should have done a long time ago in a gal... anyway, lucas makes it "pretty clear" that at least some of the stormtroopers are clones.
