There has been some loose marketing tie ins regarding Lucas and his movies but using Yoda to sell National Lottery Scratch Cards in ROTS really gets to me.

In the UK, the poor buy most of these cards and some therefore consider them a tax on the poor, because the taxes from these cards go to the Government. Only 16 year olds and over can buy these cards and I just cannot get this image out of my head of the serene and wise Yoda being used to get parents, hassled by their kids, to buy these things. It is not as if they can play with these cards and once they are scratched, the image of Yoda is obliterated. They have nothing that would appeal to a kid other than using Yoda to sell them.

George Lucas has enough money not to screw a few more bucks out of those who can least afford it. The force is now just a money making machine and the next time I read or hear George Lucas give those pompous moral lectures about society today, I'm going to shove a light sabre up him where the sun don't shine.

O.o

Wow. Just when I thought Lucas's marketeering could get no more crass, he finds something worse. Lottery tickets? Shame on you, George.

I've posted this before but I can't resist posting it again, lyrics to a song parodying the Star Wars marketing machine:

Dark Side of Naboo
(Parody of Dark Side of The Moon / Eclipse by Pink Floyd)

The Jedi Knights are on the glass
You get one free when pumping gas
There's Jar Jar Binks, and rubber Yoda masks
Got to get the whole set while they last
Collectors fight for action figures in the store
And everyday the Taiwanese make more

And when that damn film closes
It won't be too soon
There'll still be lots of toys at Taco Bell
And if those marketeers don't change their present course
They'll drive me to the dark side of the force

All that ya touch
And all that ya see
Star Wars in your face
At every meal
The shoes on your feet
And potato chips you eat
The chicken you bite
George Lucas sold the rights
And when all this ends
The video will come
And someone must drink
Every Pepsi can under the sun
`Till they're through
To get rid of the Queen of Naboo

("There is no dark Side of the Force...matter of fact it's all dark")

See, there's this thing called personal responsibility. If they're poor, maybe they should invest their money in something other than lottery tickets. That's just like blaming McDonald's for making people fat. *me wringing my hands* "If only they would stop selling those delicious burgers! Give me a double-double, cheese-cheese, burger-burger, please-please!"

Is Lucas an uber-rich capitalist who mocks the same system that made him rich? Yep. Should he feel bad about poor people who buy lottery tickets instead of sound investments for their future? No.

Lucas isn't mocking anything, he's giving us nice heart warming moralistic lessons, such as what you refer to above.

The guys a hypocrite. That deserves a slap. Being rich doesn't, nor does selling lottery tickets ... it's having the fucking gall to THEN turn around and talk about his artistic 'vision' etc. Fuck You George, I love the creation - well the first two, but not the creator.
