I just finished this game and all it's expansion packs recently and loved it. Anyone else play this when they were younger, or continue to play it now.

I attempted to get Tie Fighter, but it won't work with Windows XP.

Anyhow, both classic games - extremely well thought-out, balanced, and overall really keeping with the spirit of Star Wars.

I used to play X-Wing, TIE Figher, and X-Wing vs TIE Fighter all the time when I was little.

This was before I was into Star Wars. The games were just that good!
I remember playing, and being captivated by "Dark" Vader. He was so cool, but scary.

I also remember playing Rebel Assault II on the computer with my dad.

Damn...those were the days, eh?

I played X-Wing CONSTANTLY. That game was amazing. I used to constantly try to take down Nebulon Bs and Star Destroyers (which was pretty easy once you defeated their TIE compliments). I can't remember my stats but I destroyed a MESS of Star Destroyers.

I played TIE fighter a bit but not as much due to the graphics being a bit much for my computer at the time to handle.

I finished both X-Wing and Tie Fighter... great games with great graphics and sound for the time!

I remember staying up late frantically playing them... pretty often I'd look out the window and the sun was already raising... rolleyes.gif

X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance... played (and still playing) all of them.

Funny enough Tie Fighter is my favourite.... the way you can become a member of the Emperor's secret order, get medals & promotions.. just does it for me.

I constantly use these games to remind people what Star Wars used to be about... not this jumping, flipping Jedi stupid games we get from Lucasarts lately.

PS.
There is a way you can get Tie Fighter to run on WinXP, but you need the Special Edition (no.. Greedo isn't shooting first). Special Editions supports higher-resolution graphics and can be run in WinXP using a special program (I forgot the name, but I'll look it up when I get home).

Cool, thanks Radu!

Yeah I've taken out a few STD's (as they're so pleasantly abreviated as in X-Wing) as well. My fault was always with the B-Wings, I always thought they should have been a bit more shielded as they were classified as flying fortresses/capital ship killers.

As well when I used to play it on DOS, I remember you could create multiple pilots with different names, portraits, etc... but in the one I bought recently, you couldn't do that at all. That means you couldn't pick your wingmen before flying a sortee. Which kind of pisses me off, since in the old one I had this cool looking Mon Calamari pilot as a wingman.

Got It !
It's called "VDM sound". It gives EMS, MSCDEX, VESA support and MIDI emulation so you get all you need: 640x480 (HIGH) resolution, CD access, music, sound, mouse & joystick support (though for X-Wing and for TIE Fighter I think noting can replace a good old optical mouse).

Do a google for this, it's available as freeware....

Recently i got Xwing alliance wich is the last chapter of those simulators... the good thing is that the graphics are quite cool and then you can download tons of crafts, missions, and even mods bassed on xwing and tie fighter... I recomend it

I was a Tie Fighter addict back in college. One of my favorite games of all time - I remember replaying a mission over and over so I could get credit for the "Light Calamari Cruiser" (LTC) kill. Ah, memories. I was so happy when the collectors' edition had BBC-English accents for all the Imperial voice clips.

For some reason, my favorite thing to do in that game was fly a TIE Interceptor, pull in behind a Y-wing and blast it apart. Any game where you can use the line "You'll pay for that, Rebel scum" is a good one. My only complaint is that you flew more missions against Imperial renegades than against the Rebel Alliance. C'mon - the game is called "Tie Fighter". We WANT to fight on the side of the Empire.

I used to play X-wing vs TIE Fighter - I would still if I had a decent joystick.

That was a great game - the fun of flying the Advanced Tie Interceptor, shunting your beams into the engine and simply sweeping every fighter out of the way before they could even touch my bombers. Capital ships were fun as but platforms were boring. Great game.

I've been really disappointed with all those Rogue Squadron games of late. They have really amazing graphics and a lotof potential but the play control is lousy and they fail to capture the feeling that those original Star Wars flying games had.
