Well, now I've downloaded Limewire, it seems that I've got something to do this summer...

Yep, I've been converted to BitLord recently. I still use LimeWire for por...interesting videos, though.

Come on, kids. Shareaza is where it's at for P2P. Nothing beats Bit Torrent though.

BitTorrent's the real deal for the bigger files, but if I want to have a single file which might accidentally contain music of any sorts, then I just start dc++, connect to a scandinavian hub (those guys got the upload-bandwith that you're usually only dreaming of) et voilą - but since I'm no pirate.gif this of course is only a theory.

I used to use Limewire, now I use Torrents and Usenet, Usenet is more fun anything else. I used WinMX before it died, that was my personal favourite, kazzaa was shit but I used that for a while. I used various other ones but I wish WinMX hadn't died, it was the best P2P ever made. BitLord is the best torrent though, I've tried alot of others but that one is the shit.

I just got Azureus the other day. BitLord is supposedly the best out there, but I ended up getting completely shitty speeds on it, like 8kBs a second, and that was with static IP and port forwarding and limiting the upload. I still get pretty crappy times (bout 40-60kBs a second), though. Any seggustions?

Yes. Choose a torrent with a better peer.

BitTorrent is dependent on the people who seed and leech, just like every other peer to peer protocol. It usually works fine because it's really fair, in comparison to kazaa or emule and all the others, but that's no guarantee for a high download rate at any time. The more active seeders and leechers, the better. And if they're all on a 8meg connection, then you're really lucky.

Yes, I know that, but all torrent programs use the same trackers, so there is no difference between any torrent programs.

Not entirely true. Which tracker you choose is still your choice. The difference in the various BitTorrent clients is in stability, configurability, maybe some cool effects like the Azureus Vivaldi and some other bugs/features. Apart from that, there are versions which take up all your bandwith, whereas others are a little bit more polite and let you set the desired limits.

I use Azureus simply because it's the first one I found and I rather like it.
More often than not, if you find a torrent with one to five seeds, you're going to see some poor download rates unless the few people you're connected to have really solid upstream connections. It's a great file sharing protocol, but it does require patience.

Things go a lot faster when you leave your computer on all day and night. Suddenly 30 hours to go doesn't seem like that much. :P

Word of warning. Apparantly, with Azerus, some people can track some things. And they can complain to your ISP. And your ISP can then decide to drop you without warning. Such a pain.
