They all bunch of self righteous losers. "look at us every one, we care, or maybe we just like giving off the impression of caring, or maybe we just like 1 million fans screaming at us as we sing on stage".

It's all a scam. AID will never end poverty, Africa will never grow strong off the charity of others. They need to do that themselves. All the aid will do is probably pro long the life of some kids, which is good, but don't go claiming your going to end poverty.

And sadly enough, it seems that Mr Bush thinks it was just a pretty pop concert, having been quoted as almost literally saying "Well, we're going to G8, but fuck you if you think we're doing anything that doesn't serve us." Believe me, I only paraphrased slightly there.

I remember President Bush suggesting large monies go to africa 18 months ago. Not that it would make it through, of course. And then there's the fact that the US is so large, that if we're paying percentages, the rest of the world is angry that the United States is too imperial. Tsunami relief, anyone?

So does that .7 cent increase pass along to every taxpayer as a trickle-down thing? Do We have a vote on this permanent change to our outreach? Or are we just bad guys if our G8 leader isn't won over with talking heads interrupting the long-awaited Pink Floyd reunion to tell us they can't believe how lucky they are to be there at the Pink Floyd reunion. Live at Live Eight.

Pablum. And then the scene where they cut to people in the streets answering questions to the letter, point by point (What have YOu learned today?) The interviewer seemed as stunned as I was. Had to be conservatives. wink.gif

Jordon's right. We could donate triple the amount requested, and it still wouldn't solve their problem for them.

Annie Lennox really did great.

Absolutely spot on.........Pink Floyd were astonishingly good!

Considering they've only been back together for like 5 minutes as well. Top stuff.

Hey music fans. MTV US is playing it now, and it's like, only the performances. Maybe Live 8 got what they wanted, so now we get what we wanted. But it's not Live.

Additionally, Still of Quiet replaces explitives.

You guys are pretty much on the money (NZ slang for correct! I apologise, from time to time I forget there are different dialects going on here).
It's a good idea, and any money that can go to those who need it is great, but still ... I am pissed that bands who could easily give a few hundred grand each instead advertise themselves and their music back catalogues for free!!!! Imagine if I said to the next person who stopped me on the street "Yeah I'll sponser a kid, I'll send him two couplets, a painting of a sailboat and a paper mache hat every second week".

Awareness of these issues is good and hopefully good has been done, but I get the impression all that will happen is that we all feel a little less guilty next time we eat when we are already full.

As for the states, shouldn't the US spend a comparable amount in Aid to other countries. We in NZ are fucken tiny (4 million people) and I think we give twice as much per person in tax dollars than the states. Now of course this is still fuck all compared to what your government gives but .... for fucks sake.
I think the reason that the States doesn't isn't because of the populace - who I think are individually good, if albeit slightly confused (those who voted GW in anyway) people - it's because the government attaches ridiculous conditions to the cash, conditions they know will be rejected and hey presto, "we tried to give money ... they didn't want it"

For example, they offered to give heaps of cash to Africa for Aids medicine IF they used heaps of it to promote abstinence, which studies have PROVEN INCREASES INSTANCES OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES - it turns out that the kids who do the courses don't carry condoms of course and therefore catch heaps when they do have sex, pretty sad. Africa said fuck off we are trying to stop the epidemic not spread it and the US said, how sad no money for you

Perhaps we should all just sponser a kid. One person can save a life, it's a cliche but aren't some cliche's applicable because they are true???????????

Well that sucks. Didn't know about the conditions you referred to.
If the kids were American, they'd have all the condoms they'd want.

Yeah, it's funny, as Billy Connolly says "In my day you would get hell if your parents caught a condom in your pocket, now parents are stuffing them in their kids pockets as they waltz out the door."

Absitnence is nice, but we should put the ethics aside and use whatever method seems to halt the spread of disease and teenage pregnancy, and all the studies point to contraception and information as the answer.

For fucks sake how much shit do poor kids go through because we're all too embarrased to help educate them about this most fucken important and potentially life ruining aspect of life, all because "oohhh it's naughty and I'm too embarrassed." Fuck I am all riled up about this.

I'm sure that good has been done, Patrick (can I call you Patrick?), however, I am also sure that this will be Tsunami Relief v2.0. In three months, will the public still care? Not likely.
