I just bought an old Sega Genesis with four games at a garage sale for 5 bucks. It works great, but now I don't know what games to get. I already have Sonic 2 and Sonic Spinball, but what else is good?

NBA LIVE '95 - Revolutionized basketball games

General Chaos- Just good clean fun, ingenuitive game play

Mortal Kombat 1 - It has blood! And plays great

Altered Beast- The music, the levels, the voices "welcome to your doom"

FIFA International soccer- Best Soccer game prior to the new consoles

Urban Strike- Fun chopper game. Flying around shooting/bombing terrorists to save Washington!

NBA JAM - It plays almost identical to the arcade

Michael Jackson's Moon Walker - the game is cool but the best part is the still face shot of MJ that acts as a break between levels. The only part of his face that's animated are his lips. By pressing A,B, or C you can get Michael to say his most popular phrases. Whooooo's bad? OOOOHH, and one more. The best part is if you keep hitting button 'A", he goes "Whoooooooooooooooooooooowhoooooooooooooooooooooowhoooooooooooooooooooos bad?" It's really funny.

If you can, just hop in a pawn shop and grab all thats on the shelf.

But if you're looking for something in particular try:
Toejam and Earl (1 and 2)
    Pirates! Gold
Micky Mouse World of Illusion (not Castle of Illusion)
Tiny Toons - All star *something* (its a damn fine sports game)

But then again, my knoledge of the Sega is pretty limited. I was more of a NES and then a PSX kid.

Although I still have my Master System 2, I pretty much left Sega after that, sorry.

If you're into the horizontal scrolling beat-em-up thingy, the "Streets of Rage" saga is very cool, also "Comix Zone", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "Gunstar Heroes" which has some amazing graphics and the "Golden Axe" ones.

Platform-wise, "Flashback - The Quest for Identity" is very good, most of the "Sonic" series, "Blackthorne" ...

I also loveeeed the "Ecco, the Dolphin" series !!! innocent.gif

...

Oh well. I loved the Sega megadrive / genesis so much, that I have a cd with some 700+ roms so I can play them in my laptop, whenever I feel like it. I even have a pad which resembles the original one, so the feeling isn't lost.

Least you still have your MS, mines long gone... sad.gif

Well, first of all, I advise you pick up Sonic 1, 3 and Knuckles. There is still nothing quite as fun as holding down the Right button and waiting.

Micro Machines 2 and/or 96 are both good driving games, simply because I like the long, fast course.

Plus, anything with Earthworm Jim in it is good for a giggle.

Jeez, I might as well go buy every Sega game EB has... :P

I would do the roms, but I'm pretty sure I can't download anything on this computer, plus I like using a joypad instead of a keyboard.

Yeah, not to mention all the geek cred you get for having an 'Entertainment Center of Doom' featuring all the old consols as possable.

But if you go to any of the game stores, you do get a better selection but you have to pay a bit more. I still say you should browse around a few pawn shops to get the best deal.

I brought my NES to college with me. It was glorious. All the Mario games, Golden Zelda catridges, Contra, Final Fantasy 1, Bionic Commando... The only thing I'm really missing is the Mega Man series.

Genesis roms? Streets of Rage 3 is the best of that series. You can get to be two of the bosses as secret characters. Sonic 1-3 and Knuckles, most especially Sonic 3 locked on to S&K. Als, the entire Phantasy Star series (2,3, and 4) are great. Comix Zone, aye, both Earthworm Jims, Shining Force 2 (Where you can witness the power of Slade firsthand). A must have is Beyond Oasis as well.

Edit: Forgot Vectorman.

I've already got Sonic 3 + Knuckles for PC. Absolutely brilliant. I also have Sonic 2. I may be getting Sonic soon. :D

Sonic one is the best. I still remember the commericals for SEGA's first official Mascott.

Nope. Though there were only 6 emeralds in that game. My guess storywise is it takes 7 to get the ability.

Yeah, it takes seven and fifty rings, then the rings get slowly eaten up until there's none left.

I used to get the comic, and that's what it said.
