From a Kevin J. Andersen edited novellization of ROTS:

After dispatching the newly ordained Lord Vader to Mustafar, Palpatine sat down at his desk and let out a deep sigh. The outside air stung at his just disfigured face. Alll had gone according to plan, but was the proce too high? During his confrontation with the now dead Mace Windu, Palpatine sensed a momentary hesitation in his new Sith Lord. Could he trust him?
No, all HAD gone according to plan, he reasoned, years of meditation and manipulation had finally paid off. His disfigurement was but a small price to pay for the unlimited power he would soon have, the boundless and immesurable riches that would come forth. He was in the best position than any other Sith Master could have ever envisioned in their many millenia ofsecret and turbulent existence. He and his apt pupil would uncover the secret of everlasting life, no matter what the cost to the galaxy and reap its rewards.
Palpatine felt the cold become more intense. He reached into the desk drawer and pulled out his intergalactic rolodex. He sent an audio signal to have his companion from the other night jon him in his study. Was she available? Of course, she was nearby at a high end shop on Coruscant's high fashion district, trying on a Gingan leather jacket, she'dbe happy to drop in.
On again, off again, Palpatine thought. Turn them over and they're all the same, unless they're a Hutt. She entered his dishevelled room, a look of surprise on her wide, bald visage.
Palpatine, with his back to her, started to say that he was sorry he had to cut their date short, but the final phase of a plan he had been working on had come to fruition just now, and that the conclusion of the Water Opera was predictable and formulaic, she didn't miss anything really.
He continued that now he would have the time and the means to spend more time with her, that he had an assistant who could take care of the bulk of his work. He turned around as she ran toward him, ready for a lustful embrace. She paused in shock just short of him, and asked what happened to his face. His once handsome, face, with its distinct features, was gone, replaced with a puffy, sickeningly pale complexion with deep demonic reddish eyes that were disturbing to say the least.
So what? You're bald like that chick in the first Star Trek movie! Palpatine roared, as he zapped his onetime secret lover with Sith lightening and she made a matching pair with Mace Windu as she was flung out the window to the streetscape below, which surprisingly enough didn't have any overhead traffic to interfere with her fall or Mace's for that matter......
Palpatine reflected that he shouldn't have done that, and that he should find a new companion soon, so as not to fall into the same fate as Darth Ray Millan*, the Sith Hand Model Master*

*Ray Millan was the guy George Costanza succeeded as a hand model in a memorablle episode of Seinfeld.Ray becaome so enamored with his own hand that no woman could compare. Tough problem for a Sith Master, especially when you factor in the Sith lightening that he can emit from his hands.........
