If Obi Wan got bamboozled in joining the "Livving Force" as a grisled old man the Anakin got bambooxled in the sales pitch for the Sith apprentice.

What was the selling point for Maul? Revenge against the Jedi? Why would he want that? The Jedi turned him down because of the freaky facial tattoos? At the apex of his fighting power, when he bests Qui Gon, who is arguably one of the better Jedi Knights he gets bested in a wimpy way by Obi Wan, a really wet behind the ears novice to put it lightly, going down in two pieces like a real bitch.

What was the selling point for Count Dooku? Disallusion with the Jedi order? What was it that disallusioned him specifically? He seems to make a number of logical points during Obi Wan's interrogation in ATOC. Of course this could have been fleshed out better to give more cause and effect. He also dies in a wimpy way to say the least, with his faultering at the duel and getting beheaded by an opponent that hesitates at a pivotal moment. The hesitation, combined with Palpatine saying "Kill him!" should motivate the Count, no matter how old to at least come back fighting and try to make an effort to take put Palpatine out of the sense that he was duped all along, even with both hands gone, I'd try to bite the bastard's nose off, not to mention using other Sith tricks he must have had in store.

Anakin's selling point is supposedly the knowledge to keep Padme alive which he oh so wants but this drops by the waist side when he gets the armor and after the "Nooooo!!!!!" there's no real big deal there for him. He doesn't meet his end in a wimpy way, in effect, in Jedi, its the best of all of the Sith.

Luke as a possible convert is tempted to join the Dark Side by Palpatine to save the Rebellion from assured destruction and by Vader by ending the Galactic Civil War and joining his Father. Makes you wonder if at that time (ESB) Vader realizes that Palpatine doesn't have an idea of how to prolong other people's lives or create new life. Luke's near end isn't bad, although it makes you wonder why there was no training drill against Force lightening as posted many moons before, or Yoda would at least say, "Mindful be of blue electricity Palpatine shoots from his arms does he...."

Makes you wonder why Maul or Dooku don't use the Force choke when taking on more than one opponent. They're Sith bad guys so there's no need to hold on to civilrous notions. Dooku could have gone down betterusing the Force choke on Palpatine because he had every reason to being really pissed off.

Darth Maul was raised since he was a child to be Sidious' apprentice. Hatred for the Jedi was inculcated in him during his entire childhood. There was no "selling point" for him.

Dooku has political aspirations, and he sees joining forced with the Sith as a means for achieving his ends.

Anakin is desperate enough to believe that Palpatine could save Padme's life if he hands himself over to the dark side. He blames the Jedi order (expecially Obi-wan) for her death, and owes Palpatine for saving his life.

It is a rather moot point to wonder if Luke was taught about the Emperor's force lightning. Luke threw away his lightsaber *knowing* that the alternative to fighting was to face almost certain death before the Emperor's powers. That's what makes it a heroic choice. He trusted in the good he sensed in his father to save him from Palpatine; and if he was not saved, at least he would die a noble death.

I don't think we've ever seen a force-user choke another force-user on-screen. It must be significantly more difficult to use force powers against another force-sensitive. I imagine Palpatine could ward off force-powers in the blink of an eye.
