Hey guys, I was just having a discussion with a co-worker about our difference in beliefs. He is a strong believer in Crist, whereas, I beleive in more of a cath-22 universe. Any input would be greatly apreciated.

First off, is your name a reference to the Scandanavian goth-metal band of the same name?
Secondly, I went to a Catholic school, and it sort of contributed to my strong dislike for Christianity. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that I don't have respect for people who believe in such things. I view religion as a way of helping one's self answer some of life's hardest questions (ie: regarding the afterlife and so forth), and if religion can help you get through tough times, then it's a good thing. It just so happens that it's not for me, the music is my religion, and I worship with pride.

With a name like Him I just figured that this was God and this is a test.

I believe in the one true way! unsure.gif

I do not follow any religion. I am unconvinced by any of the various creation myths. I don't know what you mean by a "cath-22 universe," even if you meant "Catch-22." It was an okay book, but nothing I'd base a universe on.

I have no idea what sort of input you'd like, but I know a fair bit about modern religions and a few things about paganism, so if you have any specific questions, I may be glad to help. What did you guys talk about in this discussion you had?
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

Thank you for your time.

spirituality is good for the individual, it encourages you to do good.

organised religion is like organized crime, it corrupts and opresses.
all religions are evil once they get enough numbers...

once again, personal beliefs are okay!

Well, it's sort of complicated of what religion I follow. It's not really a religion, but a set of beliefs. Here they are:

-There is an afterlife, and you do find your way to another home, be it physical or spiritual.
-There is a supreme being, which is watching and protecting us.
-You are a container of a soul which has almost absolute potential.
-And there are limits, in a physical body.
"Forever and Always."

Very nicely put, Mr. T (I never thought I'd be able to call someone Mr. T, and now I can. This is great).

Actually, being a Monday morning...
i have decided Christianity gets my "sad devotion to that ancient religion" vote.

for years they have been telling us what (and what not) to watch/read/listen to/do.
burning books, banning films, blacklisting bands and writers and so forth. taking money, convincing people to mass suicide, wearing too much eye mascara, perpetuating racial hatred, starting wars, alienating, eradicating, and threatening us and our civil rights!!!

And using GOD as an excuse. Misusing bible quotes to justify their bullshit!!!!

Well...

all i want is them to enforce the 24hr day division into 8hrs of sleep, work, recreation. most people devote more than 8hrs a day to work!!! were are the Christians then? Huh?

(Yes, that's right. all that ranting was purely because I don't want to work as much)

I'm with barend on this. I consider myself a Christian and believer in God, but it is a very personal thing. When you look around it is very easy to see how organised religions have really screwed up so many things. I put it down to the positions of power that can be granted through such things. World leaders and major religious leaders tend not to be that dissimilar. There are some exceptions obviously but in the end most religions go through periods where they have had or currently have leaders who want to be leaders on wield power as opposed to wanting to service the greater good which there doctrines preach. They tend to server the greater good of their religion over the greater good of mankind.
Luminous beings are we... not this crude matter.
