First, let me say that I respect all of you as brilliant individuals (what other kind of individual would post here?? happy.gif) And that I am sorry if I offend anyone.

I'm far from brilliant and thus deeply offended by the above comment. Please don't stereotype.

KDogg, anyone able to recognise they aren't brilliant is brilliant in my book.

First, let me say that I respect all of you as brilliant individuals (what other kind of individual would post here?? ) And that I am sorry if I offend anyone.

Second, let me say that I HATE RELIGION!! I hate the judgmentalism, the mentality that "just because I believe in God, and He believes in me, then everything that I do and say and believe has this giant stamp of approval on it." I have been around "Religious folk" all of my life. How can they expect to "change the world," when they don't ever demonstrate that the people in the world are worth anything.

Third, I believe that what is wrong should be classified as wrong. I don't think that in the grand scheme of things it is going to make a bit of difference if I am a "better person" than someone else around me. It is a level playing field, no matter how good I try to be, I will always mess up, just like everybody else. If you don't believe that you mess up, just talk to your Mom  ! Because I mess up, I can't point the finger at someone else and say "He or she is baaad." I like Homosexuals, I don't like to think about what they do, but they are people just like me, and so they deserve for me to treat them like I treat me. Or better.

My views exactly, only more eloquently put.

Sorry about the double post!!

Otal Nimrodi, it's the fourth one that gives me hope, and enables me to say the others.

Well, the fourth doesn't apply to me. At least not the accepting Jesus part. I'm a Unitarian Universalist, see. It's a Christian sect, but not christian per se.

Oh, I see.

So you study different religions? Is that right? What exactly do you believe? Sorry if I seem ignorant, I live in a smallish city, and don't get out a lot...

A Unitarian Universalist is normally an old person who listens to NPR and likes church but not religion. At least, around here... Protestants are a sect of Christianty that believes that being Catholic is fair grounds for public lynchings.

Seriously, a Unitarian believes in the teachings of Jesus, but not that he was the son of a deity. Nihilism is a philosophy, not a religion, so you shouldn't mix that. Your conflict comes with trying to be Unitarian and Protestant. You've got to decide if you want to worship Jesus or just thank everything for the good in life.

Fourth, I am a Christian. I am not religious, nor am I perfect. I will never be, because I cannot keep myself from doing wrong. Christianity isn't about religion. I am happy not because I go to church, or because I "merely accepted" Jesus. I am happy because I know he loves me. He died so that I wouldn't have to be seperated from him for eternity. That love has changed my life, and now I can have compassion for other people. I am NOT out to make you join my "religion," but I do encourage you to look into that relationship. My "religion" would be stupid...
OMG thank you. that is exactly what christianity should be like. its sad that non belivers judge us because of what our hipocryte christians do.

Revan-47, I think a lot of the misunderstanding between Christians and non-believers stems from the fact that there are a lot of hyppocrites out there that "wave the flag" of "Christianity," and then feel free to judge and condemn instead of showing compassion. But, a lot of it comes from others who believe and care for people, and keep quiet about what they really believe. Personally, it is really hard to express my beliefs with some people, and I think part of it could be that I should have been saying it all along, because maybe then they would have a better understanding of true Christianity. Thank you for starting this discussion...It has really been thought provoking!

It cracks me up that the only record of Christ losing his temper was with the money lenders using the temple for personal gain ... televangelists take note.

I have no problem with anyone who keeps there beliefs to themselves or perhaps shares them with no expectation of a retort. Those who feel that there way is THE way however deserve a good old fashioned cock punching.
