QUOTE (Gobbler @ Jan 26 2006, 07:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Which brings us to the point that religion's quite useless, as long as those entities aren't interested anyway... well, I don't know how you think about this, but in my opinion it's been quite a while since one of them influenced our spheres... ergo...

I see the influence of my deities everyday. As my Pagan Gods are not as far removed from humanity, its not rediculous to assume that they still play an active roll in thier devotees lives. Many Irish deities were tribal and regional - they were not ever really though of as supreme beings. They were very human and had human flaws - jealosy, rage, lust. Good stuff like that. Celtic scholars believe that some of these deities may have been based on acutal humans - heroic figures and what have you.

And I believe that the deities are interested in... well... maybe not religion, but interested in not being forgotten.

I cant speak for the judeo-christain god. I kinda feel bad for him/she/it. People are always putting words into gods mouth - making it look bad. Why give some great omnipotence human charactoristics and emotions in the first place. It doesnt make any sense. The source of all existance should not have petty human attributes like mercy and anger... or care at all for that matter. I belive in the concept of "source." but I dont think it gives a shit either way what people do - i think it just IS.

I told everyone that I had started writing a book called "The Dove, The Sparrow, The Crocadile" and that the "Hatred of the Past" story was sort of a Demo for TDTSTC.

This could easily develop into an infinite loop. Let's sit back and watch...

I've seen more proof that individual minor god-type-people exist than I've ever seen that God exists. And if God does exist, I don't really understand why people would worship him. He seems a little arrogant, to me. And not horribly involved for the past few years. You can't really see much possible effects of God's existance besides existance itsself, and that's kind of iffy. Even if he did create everything, it sounds sort of suspicious. He creates everything, does a little bit of meddling for a while, gets bored, and leaves? If he has the power to create everything except, possibly, himself, then why has he not intervened for the last couple of hundred years at least? Would he just not have our best interest at heart, then?

Sometimes, when the ceremonies and rituals of a religion get too built up, people seem to be able to care less. I went to St. Brighid's well, and there were letters and statues and pretty little gifts obviously carefully selected. In the back there was a garland of hair ties- not important gifts, but they had been made into a garland hanging across the pool of water. Even the people who came just to see the well gave what they could give in the most meaningful way they could give it. What was amazing was the belief that went into these gifts. Not a single person had gone through the motions without really caring- they didn't know what to do, so they did what they thought was best. And it's easy to imagine a minor god who intervenes when they can, and does their best to look out for you, but can't always help- more flawed, human gods, or saint/goddess in this case, have a ready made explanation for why there is evil in the world- they can't stop it. But it feels more comforting to have a weaker person on your side who will do their best to help you than to have an infinitely powerful person who just doesn't care.
"YOU'RE MISSING A PERIOD. YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY, DON'T YOU? YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU FUCK WITH GRAMMAR? WELL, FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR MISSING PERIOD! I HOPE IT MEANS YOUR SLUTTY, NON-PUNCTUATED WAYS HAVE GOTTEN YOU TEEN-PREGNANT!"

God created us in his own image... so he gave us the RIGHT to play God.

Makes me wonder... if god created us with the picture that the mirror showed him in mind... does he walk around his house in underwear too?

COBNAT, of course. If I make a sculpture, do I give it the right to walk and talk?

Well, presumably, I do. And I would know. I made it.

It's just an example, taken as a given, for the sake of argument, that people were created by God. Which I don't believe, but, as I said, just assume.
