I'm not sure if this has been discussed before but why didn't the Jedi know that Padme was really Queen Amadale in disguise, when they have that whole knowing who people are from their unique force signature thing going on? Isn't this like some kind of galatic DNA? Only thing I can think of was that Qui Gon Jin did't want Padme to look an idiot when she "revealed" who she was to those Gungans.

I think they hinted at it actually. One of the best scenes in TPM, was when Qui Gon hints to the Handmaiden (Padme) that he knows who she is:

"The queen trusts our judgement, young handmaiden. So should you."

Basically with that he was saying, "Your gig is up sister, you ain't fooling me."

Man, I love Liam Neeson. Such delivery.

ya, i agree completely with diligent d. also, at the scene in the gungan sacred place (when padme's identity is revealed) it says in the screenplay that the jedi "give each other a knowing look."

although, when everyone else stands up, obi just sits there scratching his head.

The only good thing about Ep. 1, imo.

Oh common' .

All the Jed in the galaxy couldn't figure it out that the Chancelor was a dark Sith lord.. but two of them could see the diference between a queen and her handmaid. Yeah .. sounds about right actually mellow.gif
I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

And what about her name. She was called Queen Amidalia yet her "handmaiden" was called Padme. So why would you name your handmaiden after your first name. There fore anybody that knew her whole name would know that her and her handmaiden were the same people. Either that or everybody was a bunch of retards.

Sorry he ain't hinting. Padme tries to stop Gin regarding his plans for Anakin and the chariot race by saying the "the queen will not approve." Gin's response is as you say above, but it isn't your jig is up. By not saying her name he's giving a shut up bitch what do you know, you're only a handmaiden, not a queen response. In other words he's putting her down. What a nice Jedi he is.

It's the same old excuse as everything else: The dark side is clouding, blah, blah, blah.

the jedi can sense individuals. vader knows obi-wan, anakin knows dooku, luke knows vader. and yes, qui-gon knows the queen regardless of her hair-style. but i presume no jedi had ever been in the presence of darth sidious as such, so they could not compare that experience to the presence of palpatine. not rocket science.

the scene on tattooine i believe was simply qui-gon investigating a hunch. he says something inflammatory then gauges padme's reaction. the truth should have been obvious to a jedi when the 'queen' consults the 'handmaiden' about the appropriate course of action in the theed hangar. by the time padme is revealed as the queen the jedi had been in the presence of padme as the queen (on the ride back to naboo).

WHF? Why would the presence of Palpatine prevent Qui-Gon from realising that Padme and Amadala share the same force signature that is they are the same person? Especially in the light of Vader knowing Luke etc. You're explanation appears to be as stupid as you.

Yet another thing thrust upon us with no logical reason for it being there. Alright, she has a double because its a dangerous time but no other Queen employs a double later on, and when she's no longer Queen (because her term expired!_ she still employs a double who gets killed in the beginning of ATOC, which is probably the worst job to have, even worse than Assistant Crack Whore.

And all the Queens dress alike, changing outfits every 5 minutes from the Kubuki number to more outrageous digs for no apparent reason.

whoa there julie, before anyone calls anyone stupid lets just reveiw the argument. my point is that jedi can sense who is who, so a costume wouldnt disguise the queen from the jedi, once they had felt the presence of padme and amidala, they knew they were the same person (if not sooner). i never-ever said anything remotely close to,

"Why would the presence of Palpatine prevent Qui-Gon from realising that Padme and Amadala share the same force signature "

i have no clue where you got that impression from, certainly not my post... i was saying the EXACT opposite of that. that qui-gon would definitly know the queen. i only mentioned palapatine in response to this statement:

"Oh common' All the Jed in the galaxy couldn't figure it out that the Chancelor was a dark Sith lord.. but two of them could see the diference between a queen and her handmaid. Yeah .. sounds about right actually"

no jedi was given the chance to compare palpatine's 'force signature' to sidious'.
