QUOTE (Jordan @ Jul 7 2005, 06:17 AM)
Do some traveling folks and you'll find that North America is getting shafted when it comes to soda variety.  In europe they have apple flavour Coke! Why dont' we get that? Also, they sell it in bottles.

I don't care what any one says, SODA TASTES BETTER WHEN STORED IN GLASS, there is a huge difference in taste. More crisp more robust!

Mountaindew is nasty!  Once they invent diet mountaindew, that will be the sign of the coming of ANTI CHRIST.  Two of the most unholy inventions of man, coming together to form the most vial, repugant beverage the world has ever seen.

Fresca runs second but Mountain Dew takes the Gold when it comes to Un-natrual and wrong.
I know i cant stand mountain dew when it comes out of the bottle.

Bottle's best for mountain dew, it tastes gross from the tap.

Jordan: Fresca does indeed take all of the fun out of soda. And I prefer soda in bottles to aluminum, but it's not required.

Diet mountain dew? I think it's illegal in Canada.

Aluminum ---- Metallic after taste

Plastic ---- Weak, unsatisfying after taste

Bottle---- Crisp, Fresh, strong!

Chef said it best, Slade, when it comes to Fresca "it leaves an empty feeling in your soul" IT's so true, you almost feel the non-calories but not really. It's as if Fresca steals something from you- Protein, carbs, joy, love etc..

But Fresca isn't the same as it used to be. In the early '70s it had this great "cloudy" taste.

Ever heard of Dr. Well's? some 70s pepper rip off. yuk.
sun-drop, bubble-up, don't waste your time.

7up and DrPepper are listed in the AP (Associated Press) Stylebook. no hyphen, no period.

I have a round top, nickel coke machine which needs rewiring. (1940s)
used to have a side stack pull the bottle out coke machine (60s) which was the real thing.
you could ice the glass bottles if you wanted, there was a thermostat.

and it came in handy for defrosting the frig.

I'm big on the glass bottles. In case you've not noticed, they've gone from 6.5 oz to 8 oz. quality vs quantity. and they don't use wooden coke crates anymore. Grab them if you can. (have about a dozen. And LOTS of old coke bottles. One that's clear, from "coke beach.") Sam's has them, case of 24 for around ten dollars.

Coke used to come in glass liter bottles, too. That was eons before the 2-liter container, let alone the fridge pack.

thank goodness for preservatives.

edit: next time you pull a bottle or can from the convenience store case, check the label for the latest (expiration) date. you owe yourself maximum freshness.

Pah, mountain dew. All soft drinks pale in comparison to the Hangover curing brilliance of the highland Irn Bru.

(and it mixes better with rum or vodka).

Irn Bru isn't bad- I had an aquaintance from Scotland send me some, and I thought it was okay, and I'm not even much of a regular pop person. I mostly stick to Diet Coke and/or Diet Pepsi. I'm not big on Mountain Dew.

If I'm driving back from a concert in the big town 2+ hours from here, I'll do the dew. For caffeine it cant be beat. And thankfully, I cross a time zone so it's really 1+ hour.

Nothing beats flat coke as a hangover cure. Doesn't matter what brand, as long as its brown and not fizzy, it works.

Never tried Irn Bru as a mixer though, have to give it a go.

Irn Bru is great, fact!

There used to be a lucozade drink called NRG, which may as well have been called Instant Hangover Cure. It never failed.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about it, and weep for its disappearance.
