There is a junction in the game when you are confronting Bastilla on the landing pad where you can decide to go either bad or good. If you go bad, then you destroy Mission, Carth, Zalbaar, and a couple other members of your party.

For some reason all these games have these junctions - like Jedi Knight, the game that kicked these games off, you can spare your friendly helpful girlfriend and get blasted into a falling starship or you can kill her and get blasted into a falling starship.

Ya that's about the same with this one. You go bad and kill your party and then go to the bad guys ship and kill him (with the gist that your taking over his place as scourge of the galaxy) or you could go good and go the bad guys ship and kill him (with the gist of ridding the galaxy of his scourge). That said, the uh...the cut-scenes are different. smile.gif

Has anybody built up darkside or lightside points and then decide to do the opposite of what your character is at that point (ie You do lightside for the whole game but turn darkside at that point or vice versa) Does that have any bearing on the rest of the game? Im playing it again (thanks to this thread biggrin.gif ) and may try doing that right after the temple

I cant believe how well it holds up after playing it for the fifth time. About the only complaint I have is Taris drags on a bit.

Yeah. The Taris part is too slow, but after you rescue Bastila the game keeps getting better. smile.gif
Sorry, you won't be seeing a smartass sig here. Try with the next poster.

Although Malak is much harder to beat if you've stayed on the lightside wink.gif

after the first 3 times i played through, i downloaded some mods and additional items (i've got the PC version) and was able to give all my characers lightsabers.

That made Taris a lot more interesting.

The first time I played, it was as a light side jedi wearing armour, with no offensive powers. I can tell you, Malak is a *lot* harder to fight that way.

Getting Zaalbar to kill Mission requires Dominate Mind. Otherwise you have to kill her yourself. And you can only kill Carth if you're female.

As for the story, I'll give it a shot. Take into account that I strongly suggest you play it yourself. I'll just be relating the plot, and will leave out all non-needed characters/locals.
Background: About 40 years after the Exar Kun war, the Mandalorians attacked. The republic asked the jedi for help, but the masters urged caution, saying that they sensed a hidden threat behind the Mandalorian assult. But many of the younger Jedi were impatient, and couldn't stand to see the republic suffer. A Jedi Knight by the name of Reven united this faction, and lead them into the Mandalorian wars, with the help of his friend Malak. Reven was gifted not only with a staggering amount of charisma, but also turned out to be a tactical genius. Under Reven's command the Republic managed to fight the Mandalorians to a standstill, then start pushing them back. But in doing this, Revan was forced to make many difficult decisions for the greater good, and slowly fell. In the end, Revan was victorious, the Mandalorians crushed. But instead of returning valiant hero's, they returned conquering Sith. The renagade Jedi that had joined the crusade had all turned to the dark side(save one, but s/he only comes up in KotOR 2). Revan's forces had been demolishing the Republic and the Jedi Order for one and a half years, when the Jedi council saw a chance. They sent a crack team of Jedi onto Reven's flagship in an attempt to incapacitate the Sith Lord. But things didn't go quite to plan. As Reven was distracted by the Jedi, Reven's apprentice, Malak, saw his chance for power and fired on Reven's ship. With Reven's death, the war has eased up a bit over the last half a year, but the Republic is still looking to be in dire straits. After double crossing his master, Darth Malak rose to the position of Dark Lord of the Sith. Although nowhere near the strategist that Darth Reven was, Malak seems to have a giant armarda of strange unknown ships under his control, and is looking to win the war by shear numbers. The only thing keeping the Republic alive is the Jedi Bastilla. Although young, she has mastered the rare power of Battle Meditation. She will go into a trance, giving all allies around her a greater calm and knowllege of the battle, whilst making her eneimes give in to fear and doubt. As the game starts, Bastilla is travelling on the Republic Flagship "The Endar Spire", piloted by Captain Carth Onasi.

Opening Game, Endar Spire and Rescuing BastilaSo, at the start of the game you create a character. You choose their gender and proffession(either a Scout, Soldier or Scoundrel). In honour of Helena, I shall refer to the player character as RGN(Random Generated Name), and use the words 'him' or 'he' where approrpriate.

The game starts with RGN being woken up in his bunks on the Endar Spire by his bunkmate Trask(I think thats his name), who fills him in on the situation. RGN was apparantly very good at what he did(whether it be a commando, explorer or smuggler)and was placed on the Endar Spire to help protect the Jedi Bastila, who was vital to the war effort. As it stands, the sith managed to track them down, and set up an ambush for the ship over the planet of Telos. Unprepared, the Endar Spire was slowly falling to the planet, and sith troops had infultrated and were hunting down the survivors. RGN and Trask receive a message from Carth Onasi urging all able hands to report to the bridge, but by the time they reach there, they find that everybody's already either dead or gone to the escape pods. Whilst they're making their way off the ship, a dark jedi by the name of Darth Bandon cuts them off. Trask runs into hold him off, so that RGN can escape. Fighting his way through the sith, RGN finds Carth at the escape pods. Carth informs him that he is the last survivor, and the two share the final escape pod to the city.

Taris is a large city, built on the bones of it's former glory. Most humans live in the 'upper city', where it is clean and the sun and sky can be seen. The 'lower city' is home of various alien slums and swoop gangs. Down on the ground, the 'under city' is the domain of the destitute, resembling a slum in calcutta. Taris is currently under occupation of the Sith, who have blockaed the planet in the hunt for the survivors from the Endar Spire.
Carth awakens RGN from nighmares of a female Jedi fighting aboard a ship. He explains that the escape pod crashed in the upper city, and Carth dragged RGN to an abandoned apartment. He explains the blockade, and states that they have to find Bastilla, and rescue her if she's still alive. He puts forward the argument that the sith will be focused on finding her, and not worried so much by a couple of missing soldiers, but even so they still should keep a low profile. Lets face it, who knows what the weilders of the dark side of the force would do to them if they were captured? Hell, the could even erase your very identity. So, the two set off. The soon learn that the other escape pods crashed in the undercity, so they make their way down to investigate. But they get their too late, word is the Black Vultures swoop gang had already cleaned them out first. Infact, they had captured a female republic officer, and were putting her up as the prize for the winner of the season opening for the swoop races. So, RGN makes a deal with the rival gang, the Hidden Beks, to race. The vultures had stolen the Beks prototype swoop engine, and if RGN steals it back, the Beks will outfit it in one of their swoops and let RGN ride it under their banner. But only one person knows how to get into the Vultures base, and that's a young Twil'lek by the name of Mission Vao. So, RGN heads to the undercity to find her. Turns out her wookie friend, Zalbaar, had been captured by Gamorreans, so she agrees to help you if you rescue him. So, a few dead gamorreans later, Zalbaar swears a life debt to RGN for saving him. He said that slavers were causing a lot of troubles on his homeworld, and he couldn't stand to be shackled. Mission then states that where big Z goes, she goes too. So you gain two more party members. With Missions help, you break in to the Black Vultures base and steal the engine. People playing dark side can choose to instead side with the Vultures, and kill the leader of the Beks. Regardless of what you choose, you will end up at the swoop track racing with the prototype engine in the colours of your adopted gang. Naturally, you kick ass, but the leader of the Black Vultures(Brevek) decides to break tradition, and refuses to give Bastila into your care. Fortunatly, she breaks out of the restraint, and attacks Brevek. You join in, and at the end you manage to convince the rather ungrateful jedi to come back to the apartment with you to meet with Carth. To be continued.

Escaping TarisAt the apartment, you have another dream. This time the female jedi, who you know recognize to be Bastila, is facing off against a dark jedi, when everything explodes around them.
There's a cutscene, wherein we see Darth Malak and Admiral Karath(Carth had previously mentioned that Saul Karath had been his mentor before he defected tot he sith) are in orbit above Taris. When Malak hears that the hunt for Bastilla is going unsuccessfully, he tells Karath to get the fleet ready for bombardment. He would rather raise Taris to the ground rather then let Bastilla escape.
Back in the apartment, Bastilla isn't too happy at the rescue attempt. She seems quite snobbish and tries to take control, but RGN and Carth quiet her down. They decided that they need to find a way off the planet. RGN mentions his dream to Bastilla, who says that it, coupled with the fact that he managed to find her and (try to)rescue her in such a big city imply that he may be force sensitive, but she will have to consult with her Masters before she can say anything of certainty. So, RGN and friends set out from the apartment. Soon, they are approached by a messenger, saying that Canderous Ordo wants to meet with them. Canderous is the enforcer for Davik, the local boss of the crime syndicate, "The Exchange". Canderous makes the party an interesting proposal. He is a mandalorian, and veteran of the Mandalorian Wars(though fighting for the opposite side to Carth). He says that he is bored on Taris, as it gives him no real oppertunity to test himself in battle. Davik has a ship which is capleable of out running the Sith blockade, but they lack the access codes to do so without being shot to peices straight away. Canderous says that if RGN can break into the sith compound and steal the codes, he'll help them steal Daviks ship, the Ebon Hawk(an ancestor of the Millenium Falcon) and then they can escape the planet together. To help, he ordered the construction of a modified astro-mech droid, T3-M4, who will allow RGN to break into the compound. He points out that he'd do it himself, but he can't let Davik know that he has the codes, so he can't be connected with the break in. So, off you go to the sith govenors compound with your new party member T3. A lot of dead sith later, you meet up with the govener, a sith apprentice. He recognises you as a force sensitive, and a powerful one at that, and decideds to kill you to please his master. Naturally, he fails, and RGN delivers the codes to Canderous. Canderous then joins your party and takes you to Davik's villa, on the pretense that he's bringing in potential new members to the exchange. Davik falls for it, and you then make your way to the hanger. Unfortunatly, the Sith Bombardment begins at this time, and so Davik is runs in at about the same time from the other end, and he's brought the famed bounty hunter Calo Nord with him. Noticing that you're trying to steal his ship, the two of them attack. Davik is killed, and Calo, fearing death, pulls out a thermal detonator. But before it can explode, the sith hit the ceiling and some scaffolding falls down crushing him. The heroes(RGN, Carth, Bastilla, Mission, Zalbaar, T3-M4 and Canderous)get into the Ebon Hawk, and leave Taris behind. Bastilla suggests going to Dantooine, where there is a secret jedi enclave.

To be continued.

That took me longer then I expected. I will finish it off, probably skimping on the star map planets. I wanted to set the scene properly, and give background for all the party members. Unfortunatly, I still have another exam on Wednesday, so production is put on hold. Anyway, hope you like it Mnesymone.

I vowed not to touch SW forums even with a proverbial barge pole, but this is the one subject that makes me break this vow.

I have just bough KOTOR (and I had to spend six time as much on the computer upgrades) and I utterly, totally love it.

IEveryone is saying it, but it is true , you have to play it to appreciate it. It is ways better than any of the PT. Gosh it had real characters! They interact! You can offend people, you can make people do things, persuade them to do things...

The motives of characters are clear - the Jedi code is simple and makes sense again. You face real moral issues and problems.

I am not yet halfway throught the game, but I wish someone would ever make it into a film.

It would make an amazing film - or maybe even a TV mini-series, as it's rather too long for a single movie. But it's never going to happen, unfortunately. sad.gif On the other hand, maybe there's reason to be grateful for that - I dread to think how Lucas would butcher the story and characters if he got his hands on them.

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Interestng to say the least, and thanks for putting all that work in... but one niggly little thing was a bit too disturbing. Exar Kun - I'm assuming he is the founder of the Sith, taken from Kevin J. Andersons crappy Jedi Academy Trilogy... I think if I were to play it I'd always had this uncomfortable feeling at the back of my head.
