Welcome to the Dart Maul board! biggrin.gif

In this board you can post what you really thought of Darth Maul: I you loved him, hateed him, that Lucas wasted a good character, that he is really stupid if he gets killed by a Padwan, etc.

My opinion:
Dart Maul COULD have been the greatest of all vilians. But George Lucas really wasted the character. I mean Maul is just a villian with a scary face and that's all! He could have at least personality having more that 3 lines. All muscle, no brains.

There is actually a comic book story in the graphic novel "Visionaries" where Maul is resurrected with a mechanical lower half and hunts for Obi-Wan by threatening baby Luke at Larrs place. Worth a read.

I think Darth Maul should have been taken out of the story and had General Grievous and Count Dooku introduced earlier in the PT.

Darth Maul: Crappy name, cool face, needed more lines.

Even bad guys need character. It enhances the conflict. It's better than saying "Here's the good guy, he wants to kill this bad guy."

Theres also an excellent Maul (resurrected again) vs Vader short in Star Wars tales 8 comic book. Its really well done and shows us a Maul we should've seen in TPM....not to mention one of the best lines Vaders ever uttered

Maul should have had less lines or a better voice - effectively Maul filled the Vader/SW and Fett/ESB role - he was there as muscle.
Though I respect him for trying to run over Jake Lloyd, he was messed around with too much with his "This is my apprentice","finally we will have revenge" and the slow hood reveal - from the first fight with Maul we saw he liked fast attacks with the benefit of surprise and wasn't above going for non-combatants (see above: running over Anakin) - then on Naboo he waits until the Queen and her men get away and until the only people left facing him are Jedi.
Also, his appearance was all wrong - when he decloaked, his red was too bright and his simple jumpsuit seemed - too simple. Someone with flesh that ornate should have been wearing a non medically-prescribed version of a Vader suit.
Also, the double-bladed lightsaber was clearly a gimmick - a more practical gimmick would have been a secondary lightsaber, used a la the old sword-and-dagger dark ages kind of fighting.

I think it would have been better if Maul had died fighting both Jedi. It would have seemed like neither of the Jedi could have beaten him alone. You could have even had a scene where they separate and Maul would have been putting the lone Jedi in defensive mode.

What we have now is Qui-Gon not seeing through Maul's attempt to separate the Jedi.

Seeing them fight together and killing him together would have been pretty cool I think.

But then we have the problem of Qui Gon being alive. (Not that that is a problem).

I agree. Grievous should have appeared in all 3 prequels. He is a great character and was wasted in Episode III as Darth Maul in Episode I.

If there is one character that's more lame than Darth Maul, its Grievous.

Exactly. Grievous kicks ass in the Clone Wars cartoons. He's injured in ROTS so we don't get to see him at his best.

Yes, but people who haven't seen the cartoons don't get the benefit of seeing Grievous when he apparently doesn't suck. I haven't seen the cartoons, so I was left wondering why we were being presented with an annoying, wheezing cyborg that completely sucks, and in no way lives up to his reputation of being an intimidating, dangerous villain by being a pathetic coward that has as much chance of defeating a Jedi in single combat as a poodle does a lion. Simultaneously, I was attempting to use the force to give George Lucas a severe stroke.

And Darth Maul was just a carelessly conceived 2D character that existed only to swish around a double-bladed lightsaber and make fanboys' brains explode.

Darth Maul is still the best sword fighter in the entire trilogy. No crouching tiger hidden dragon borefest flying bull shit.

Just great believable fighting.

His character was useless in the long run, but oh that fight scene.

Interesting opinion, too bad nothing in the entire series backs it up (except for the Maul being useless part). Great, believable fighting were you watching a different movie, or just high?

If you think think the maul fight was computer altered than you're the one whose high, or perhaps just slow.

Save the jump Ob1 does from one floor to another, the entire fight was 100% actor vs actor with out the aid of chords or CGI.

What doesn't back up? What are you saying?
