Well, this is my first post on this board, I'be enjoyed reading here for a few weeks and thought I'd contribute.
Personally I am a huge fan of the OT but am more than a little dissapointed with the NT. Now, some people may say that that's all well and good, I should simply shrug my shoulders and stay quiet, but the other day it occurred to me that perhaps this isn't the case.
From what I have read Lucas, Speilberg and Coppola were three of the up and coming directors of the seventies with an agreement as friends that they would all try and make a bit of cash with mainstream movies and then use that to gain control and make the independent/arty films they believed in.
What's happened? Spielberg hit it big with Jaws, went on to make a shit load and as well as ET etc made Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan - proving himself a man of his word. Coppola made bucket's of coin off The Godfather Pt's I and II, went on to make the financial disaster that was Apocalypse Now and has paid the price from then on for being a man with a vision but little box office success. He is now reduced to making 'studio' pictures like Jack to regain enough stature to gain finance to 'better' pictures.
And Lucas?
American Graffitti, a movie with a bit of a message as well as a good time, Star Wars - same again - and then what??? What does he do once he is the proud father of the biggest box office hit of the time? Does he do what he once said he would do??? No, he sells out and makes two more Star Wars movies. Now, we all benefitted from this, Empire and Jedi were two kickass movies and actually added something to the canon (except for the Ewoks but don't even get me started on their furry little asses - stormtroopers against teddy bears with bow and arrows!!!!!!). Then he tells us that in fact the movie was always intended to be six movies or perhaps nine - bullshit of course - if this was true then the obvious flirting between Leia and Luke in Star Wars take on a lot more R18 connotations, not to mention the photo we now have of Luke and Leia in a passionate embrace in the deleted scenes( Incest of the Jedi anyone? a poor title but still better than Attack of the Clones and a far better premise for a film).
So, in conclusion I am sick of the obvious hypocricy of Lucas, who still to this day says that it's all about the 'vision' and the fans and the love for Star Wars that propels him to make this new shit, not the need to gather up half the world's spare change. Now personally I've nothing against a little greed, I love cash as much as the next guy - in fact I have a little in my wallet right now and intend to spend a little tonight - but what I can't stand is a rich f**ker who can't admit he likes a little lolly (slang for money - sorry I'm a Kiwi so all this slang may be a bit confusing). I've got no problem with Gates having so much cash, Lucas bathing in Asses's milk every morning or Paris Hilton financing her own line of sex ed videos, just don't sit there and tell me it's all out of a need for altruism. If you came up to me at the pub and waved your money in my face and then proceeded to lecture me on all the work you did for charity I would punch you in the nose, and I don't see why it should be any different when it comes to the super rich.
I'm not suggesting we all storm the Manors and Hillside resorts and loot and plunder but perhaps it's time for the masses to let the rich now they're expected to follow the rules we all do - admit you're rich becuase you're greedy, nothing wrong with that just add to the sting of it all with your hypocricy.
Well, thats me done for now, any thoughts? Perhaps we can get together organise a world wide 'Give the rich the finger day', some kind of protest perhaps or just a good old fashioned ass whooping to the next celebrity we see who advertises how wonderful they are to the rest of us ...

as cheech and chong would say "My scrotum"

but clearly thats just to throw us off the track of riches in the direction of the previously mentioned scrotum or scrotii

With that in mind lets raid Tommy Chong's house, he's got the dope.

Well, it seems we've got the necessary troops to really make a go of this.
By the way, I finally got around to seeing ROTH the other day and walked out after the first twenty minutes.
Personally, I can't be bothered with a movie that has twenty plot holes in the first twenty minutes. I got the impression the film was written by someone who had never even seen the OT let alone someone who had 'overseen' his 'vision'.
Anyway, I'm off to the Star Wars message board to bitch some more!!!
