There are similarities between Nancy and Padme because of the unquestioning  love they bear for their respective partners, but that is all.

And the way they were treated by them, but you're right about Nancy's character. She made the best of the life she had and died courageously, trying to do what she knew was right. By contrast, Padme 'Oh, Anakin, you're breaking my heart' Skywalker is a disgrace to modern womanhood.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

QUOTE
Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

It is completely you. There is nothing wrong with Jimmy Smits, Bail Organa is one of the few good characters in this movie. In spite of the fact that he drives a totally gay speeder and does nothing to help Zett Jukassa though he is clearly armed.

What is so special about Jimmy Smits? I've heard Chefelf bring this up as a point and several people complain about it, but I still fail to see what is so bad about him.

I already said months ago that I didn't know who Jimmy Smits was before I heard it from Chefelf's list, but frankly I don't know what the whole deal is about. Does he even do or say anything in AOTC? And what's his role in ROTS? Is it just as meaningless?

I know he's an actor in some US TV show, but I hadn't heard of him before either. I don't see why he should be any more distracting than Samuel L. Jackson, to be honest.

I'm not sure. I think it's partly because he was in NYPD Blue and partly because he's a GIANT MONSTER of a man. I'm not sure. I just have never been able to reconcile the fact that he's in a Star Wars movie.

He stands out like a 3 week old, dirty sock - you don't know exactly what's wrong, just that there is something wrong.

With Notable exceptions, Lucas cast unknowns mostly. At least in the OT, which is what we were expecting, right?

I never watched NYPD blue, but I knew who the actor was. Which was worse in a way, because I had no preconception regarding his worth as an actor, skepticism if anything.

He really didn't get to do much acting. 3PO exhibited more human qualities. Bail just loomed without much to contribute, as we got to know him.

But there are folks like that in real life, too. Maybe GL was being intentional.

Mace has some lines and constructs a (paper-thin) character. Remember Billy Dee had to do the same with Lando, and succeeded. But when the purple lightsaber ignites it punches through.
Liam ought to have played MW.

But Bail is a useless character with such a buildup. He was among the Admirable to which it was OK to be wealthy and powerful, according to the SW prologue.

GL slips into "those evil ones who have greed to match" category.

If cast today, here are some other equally good choices:
Louispup. Alf. Jack Black. Jeff Probst. Michael Caine.
Bill Clinton.

Ok, I get it now. So I guess I should stop questioning about Jimmy. I watched NYPD many years ago (and I mean many) but I don't think that I really got to know his character much over there.

Smits isn't a HUGE problem, its just like all the capable actors in the PT, he isn't given a lot to do. If it were revealed that Lucas made the PT to take veteran actors and torture them with non-dialogue in non-scenes that don't allow them to do what they normally excell at, I wouldn't be surprised. Its interesting to note the number who worked on the PT and didn't have favorable opinions of the experience. Terrence Stamp and Liam Neeson have gone on record, I'm sure more will follow. I can see Ewan McGregor write a book in the future like Alec Guinness did letting us know what it was really like, altough we have a pretty good idea thus far.

Smits over-dramatic and leaden delivery of nearly every one of his lines didn't help matters, nor the repeating of the last ine said as many actors were forced to do in ROTS.

"Babies?"
"Twins?"

Yes, babies implies more than two, and since there weren't two pregnant women giving birth, its safe to assume they came from the one woman in there and in fact they were twins.

Its not like dumping Smits would have saved the picture from the ravages of this board, GL is the one responsible.

I agree than NOOOO was bad.

Moments like those stopped ROTS from achieving true excellency. It had a potential to surpass OT. It makes me sad; sad.gif

Great job as always. If I may suggest something I strongly urge you to strengthen a number of the reasons to hate in the middle as they aren't as sharp as those that appear in the beginning and end sections. Getting a definative list with a "set in stone" quality can only help matters, especially when new people learn of this site and others flock to it in their disgust at all things PT.
