Wonderful stuff, Chef! A couple of comments:

#63: The "special session" line is actually worse than you made it! They don't call it the Senate; they call it Congress!!!! Yoda actually says something about a special session of CONGRESS!!! If this universe gets any more like the U.S I think I'll puke.

#70: Right on. Most of the PT duels are over the top, but this is just outrageous! I remember sitting in the theater watching Anakin and Obi doing their fancy little simultaneous-behind-the-back-baton-twirl-attack and thinking to myself, 'wouldn't it be easier to just swing normally?' I guess you just have to be a Jedi to understand the amazing effectivness of this attack... rolleyes.gif

Isin't that Lucas idéa in a way? Comparing his galaxy with what is going over in the US? Anyway it's really stupid. Besides, why does Lucas compain?. It's war that makes money and capitalism grow, he should be happy and shut up.

I missed the "Congress" reference, and I think its just more evidence that Lucas wasn't trying to do something new and subtle with the prequels, that he was simply clueless.

As for the Anakin-Obi Wan duel, I think what it needed was for both men to lose their lightsabers, and to start duking it out with their fists, while on those lava surfing things. I think that really would have improved the whole scene.

More good reasons, particularly about the CGI inserted babies. Sometimes in the prequels I can kind of understand what Lucas is trying to do, but the execution isn't there, but alot of this seems to be done for no reason at all. He couldn't have his actors hold real babies or even dolls? WTF?

You're absolutely right. Someone pointed this out to me recently and I forgot to make the change. Something in my mind keeps trying to block it out. wink.gif

I'll try to correct that when I get a chance. smile.gif

The new ones were great. You, Mr. Chefelf, have a talent for pointing out the obvious things that no-one notices, and that is something very few people can do well.

Edit: Berry few people can do it well either, but that just sounds dumb.

Ha!

Emperor is the classic maniacal laughing comic villain and he is great this way! He is the fricking demon, why can't you see it?

And dying of broken heart is tribute to great romantic classic tales, like those of William Shakespeare. People nowadays are so cynical that they can't apreciate that love and betrayal can trully kill.

oh come on. How boring would it be to watch Obi and Anakin fight like it's 1980 and swing like amatuers? Hayden was doing some amazingly acrobatic stuff in this duel, unfortunately it moves so fast that you cant really appreciate it. Another thing is, if Anakin just "swung normally", people would still complain. I can hear it now. "THIS is the great Darth Vader, no ski11lz havin n00b??"

Sword fighting on the screen is an art form. If well done, much like scenes in the film SCARAMOUCHE, you don't need extra flavor. Lava, flying platforms, running around on collapsing structures etc... Is all distracting, unrealistic, and sloppy.

Lucas just handed off a great scene to the animators "HERE MAKE IT GOOD, I'll be at the ranch if you need me"

AOTC and ROTS had sloppy sword mechanics, the lightsabres were much more blurry and left behind distracting trails, most of the battles were 2 on 1.

TPM had a great final deul. If not for those damn cut scenes, the thing would have bloody rocked!

I think ILM did an amazing job with Mustofar. For the first time since i dont know how long, I wasnt really paying much attention to the background being not real. At the risk of sounding corny, it looked as real as it could get to me. It's only distracting if you want it to be imo.

And every Star Wars lightsaber duel (except the Maul/Qui/Obi fight....I agree it was flawless) has had at least several moments of "non-fluid" lightsaber fighting, dont act like the OT was immune to this criticism.

When I watch the movie, at the point where Vader starts the famous breathing through the mask, I was just waiting for the gurgling to start (a la Dark Helmet)

I think its taking ROTS a bit far when you compare it to the plays of William Shakespeare!! Yeah, characters did die from broken hearts in Shakespeare’s plays, but they did so after a period of weeks/months of grieving, not from about two hours of having their hearts broken. This might account for the cynicism you accuse people of having re Padme's death scene. Personally, I just put it down to their ability to see through bullshit.

I started to make a comment about the audience dying as well.

Sadly, those not brimming with fervor were dead already.

Melkor, name *one* instance, just one, of a character out of Shakespeare who died of a broken heart. Juliet, as I remember, knifed herself; Romeo, wimpier than his girlfriend, took poison; Othello used his sword; Lady Macbeth committed suicide after going insane...

Ah, I have it. Gloucester in "King Lear" dies (offscreen) for no particular reason. His heart "burst smilingly" if I remember correct when he learns that Edgar is still alive.
