QUOTE (Lord Melkor @ Jun 28 2005, 12:10 PM)
Reasons 33 and 36 are highlights of this movie to me. Nature of the Sith is something I really like, they remind me of my beloved Necroscope books series and ways of Wamphyri.

And don`t worry Username, your opinion is not less valuable that  Chefelf`s!

Chefelf, could you explain why you don`t like the Plagueis story so much?

I don't speak for Chefelf, but why the hell should he explain it, it's enough to say he don't like it. Myself, I hate it because to me it appears to make a Sith Master taking on an apprentice redundant - if you have found the secret of eternal life and can prevent yourself from dying, why do you need or even want an apprentice? Also, it's so obvious Palpatine has made this story up to get Anakin to turn to the darkside, your necroscope books need looking at again if you can be so easily fooled.

Finally, isn't there something faintly absurb about Anakin believing Palpatine could show him how to prevent death, when the person who came up with this magic potion, is wait for it DEAD?

Regarding #50, there really was no reason for having him scarred (badly) by the force lightning. One could have assumed that he just aged very badly being a sith lord in the 20+ years between ep 3 and 6. I did not like at all how the makeup looked on Palpatine in this one...kudos chefelf.

Well, my main problem with the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis is the fact that it's called the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis. I thought that was obvious. It's a stupid name for a stupid story.

Yeah, it's idiotic. I was perfectly willing to chalk the appearence thing up to 20 years of aging. After all, look at what that time did to Obi-Wan, it only stands to reason that it would affect Palpatine as badly.

Maybe there was something bad in the air after the Jedi were killed.

Regarding the whole Palpatine/Lightning/Mangled face thing. The difference is Palpy is extremely close to the power source, so the impact is probably greatly concentrated.

To use an example, try spraying a fire hose onto someone's skin from an inch or two away. It'll bruise won't it. Now spray it at someone from 20 feet, they'll get wet but there wouldn't be any visible damage.

Unfortunately the problem remains, as Chef pointed out, that the scarring looks more than a little different in ROTS.

The Emperor was one of the biggest disappointments of ROTS for me, I always found him more unnerving than Vader after seeing ROTJ for the first time. Now I see him more in the Captain Hook bracket of mega-villains!

I thought that Palpatine was making his face deformed to appear like a WEAK OLD man and have Anakin to help him. Ani just loves WEAK OLD people.

Yes. When Palpy was explaining to the masses about how the nasty Jedi had scarred him and could now be hunted down, why didn't he also reveal his real identity? He has no need to hide his identity from anyone and he seems to take a great deal of pride in the Sith Order. Instead, Palps kills all of those with force potential in the former Republic because of a possible threat to him in the future, but doesn't extend his (cough, cough) evil realm to Tatoinne which lies outside Imperial Law, because he wanted to appear like a benign dictator and not like an evil Sith. What, a silly billy.

No doubt, I never thought of that before. 20 years and suddenly Obi-Wan is an old man. How old was he in ROTS?

As for the Emporer, the EU had a perfectly good explanation: his extensive and constant use of the Dark Side drained him significantly, aging him by years and years. That's certainly better than force lightning scarring.

Let's see... The TPM script gives his age as 25. RotS takes place 12 years later, which would make him 37 at that point. And if Luke is about 18 in ANH, that would put Obi-Wan in his mid-50s (!!) Poor guy; life on Tatooine must have been pretty hard on him to age him that quickly.

Yet another reason why it was such a crappy idea to start off with Anakin as a 9-year-old and Obi-Wan as an apprentice. He should have been a Master, or at least a Knight, by the time he first met Anakin.

This would indeed make sense if it had happened gradually over the years between the PT and OT. However, it doesn't explain why his face ages immediately, and leaves him looking even worse than he did in the OT!

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

That would have been good. Hmm, do they even refer to the "Jedi" as Knights in the PT?

And how could you entice somebody by singing the success of the "tragedy" of DP, anyway?

(stupid reverse psychology  )

From the opening crawl of TPM:
QUOTE
While the congress of the Republic endlessly debates
this  alarming  chain  of  events,  the  Supreme
Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights,
the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy, to
settle the conflict...

Obi-Wan is referred to here as a 'Jedi Knight', but only in a loose sense; he was actually a Padawan.

In the Clone wars cartoon, when the council give Anakin the Master Title, the reference to knight's rituals it's obvious so i don't get why they act so -no knight- like in ROTS.
And if Anakin is Arthur, Obi is a celibate Lancelot. (in a kind of pasteurized version of The Knight of the Round Table)

Wow, finally some really good ones!

I think those are the best so far Chefelf. But what do you think about Palpatine's manipulations in ROTJ?
