Reasons 33 and 36 are highlights of this movie to me. Nature of the Sith is something I really like, they remind me of my beloved Necroscope books series and ways of Wamphyri.

And don`t worry Username, your opinion is not less valuable that Chefelf`s!

Chefelf, could you explain why you don`t like the Plagueis story so much?

I think reason 34 is connected whit the frankenstein thing. Lucas imagined Palpatine as Dr. Frankenstein aaprentice who discover a way to create "life" throw midiclorians, etc.etc.
I'm sure Lucas intention was to make Palpatine yell "It's aliveee!!" right after the Vader- Frankenstein ridiculous step.
No wonder if in the next Ep. III-IV cartoon connection a Woman-Vader appears: Bride of Vader!

The Plagueis story is a desperate attempt to explain the sith existence and to tempt anakin, but fails for a lot of reasons. (o for the lucas one)
One: It's just a story Palpy told. In a movie, we need to SEE the important things to happen. (There are a lot of ways to do this even without the necesity of flashbacks).
Two: The most important think, The "create life" thing, is not detailled and confuse and is supposed to be the main reason for Anakin to start listening. In fact, we never see anybody creating life in the film but Padme!
Three: We never really see a bond betwen Palp and Anakin, so basically they are two strangers talking in the opera.
Four:Palp is kind of telling Anakin: Sith apprentices assasin their masters, don't you want to kill me? I'll teach you...
Five: We still don't know why the nessecity of Siths, You get a lot of power as a jedi. (meybe is about the celibate, then I understand)
Six: Darth Plagueis? C'mon...
Seven: So, now we know more about the past of the Sith than the Jedi's past?
Eight: Unnatural? what's natural in Coruscant? What's logical?
Nine: hadden's expressions?

The vast majotity of Lucas ideas are there and that's what can be defended, but we are talking about how bad they look on the film.

Sometimes I like a movie so much, I forgive a lot of flaws, but usually they are details. Here we start with bad ploting and directing and acting, so why to forgive anything?

I agree with all of Chef's reasons, except the Tarzan yell. If the entire language sounds like a Tarzan yell, then why should a warcry be any different? But that's just my opinion, I might be wrong.

Maybe I'm crazy, but when I go to the rest of the reasons, the 31-40 button is still just grey and Coming Soon!!! I still got there through the address bar, however, and they're funny, Chef.

I preface this by saying that i always enjoy these lists by chefelf.

There is too much hypocracy with some these reasons. We all blasted AOTC for not showing any relationship between ObiWan and Anakin, yet when Lucas tried to show some scenes of these two actually getting along and caring for one another like brothers, it gets blasted as "corny" or "obvious foreshadowing."

The opera scene was CGI stuff, but would you have preferred something that looked like a fat lady dressed as a viking belting out arias? Then it would have been ripped for being too earth-like.

My problem with the clones was that they all looked fake, that one scene shot in in the list in particular really looked like Ewan was doing this in front of a blue screen due to the awkward way the clones were moving. Sloppy.

I think I can live without seeing any kind of opera in the Star Wars movies, frankly.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Was it even referred to as an opera in the movie? I don't recall.

Personally I think it's just too little too late. There was one scene of them joking around in the beginning of AOTC. Other than that Obi-Wan seems annoyed by Anakin in Episode 1 and there doesn't seem to be any real reason for him to be friends with him in Episode 3.

No but it was all over starwars.com and the internet in general. It was called an "opera house" which was kinda dumb. I think I could accepted it as some sort of abstract alien performance a little easier. But, whatever.

Ack! I read in another thread that these counters should be posted here, and it made sense because the thread is, after all, "91 Reasons to Hate Episode III". Ah, well. This forum can seem as consistent as the PT and the OT sometimes.

sup chief, i mean chef,

i'm going to agree with every new reason except the bubble theater complaint.

I'll give Lucasfilm props for not being too earth-like and for not copying The 5th Element. Bubble theater is unique. What else could they have been doing? Walking through a park? not unique, Playing space golf with ewok caddies and lightsaber clubs? For all the futuristic plants they could put in a space-garden, it could end up being on the same level as bubble-theater.

I liked the dynamic between Palpatine and Anakin. The problems were the specifics. The theme, tone, and acting (on ian's behalf at least) in concept were perfect, Its just the Plagueiousous plot, midichlorians, and Palpatine is Vader's father part that dumbs it down so much.

In conclusion, I'd say that your critique would be much more solid if you left out the sperm-and-egg theater bash and just critiqued stone-cold hayden and plaguiueus and the dialogue's foolish writing itself.

Hey, Chefelf. I felt the weirdest sense of deja-vu when I read the internet spoilers about the infamous "Opera scene," and heard that Palpatine insinuated that he created Anakin via midichlorians. Finally I reread your Reasons to Hate Ep. I, and I realized you predicted it from the beginning! Palpatine created Anakin without using intercourse at all! I hope you made a bet with someone that you can collect ....

BTW, I agree with Roger Ebert, I think it was he who said that the opera looked more like a giant sex education video. I was excited by the description because I love actual earth opera, but I don't know what that was.

Good gravy, he's right! I never thought about it that way before, but... genius!

"Anakin, did you ever hear the story of where babies come from?"
"No."
"I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. You see, when a Sith Daddy loves a midi-chlorian Mommy very much, then sometimes the magical Darth Stork brings them a little youngling!"
