The only thing that struck me about this, was the Sith have been around, I think, for over 1,000 years.  Why then didn't it occur to Anakin, that not one Sith, NOT ONE, had managed to find a way to prevent people from dying.  More sespecially themselves.  Didn't Dooku's death give him a clue?  Why on earth, would he believe such an obvious untruth?  Because it was in the script

I assumed they were talking about preventing natural death. Not death by lightsaber.

That sounds like a good name for a band, doesn't it? "Death By Lightsaber"

Empire would then suck.

"Obi-wan never told you about your father."

"He told me enough!, He told me you killed him!"

"Oh, uh, I guess he did tell you then... Anyway... Join me, and as father's ex-friend and ex-friend's son we can end this destructive conflict..."

Either way, if you're going to rewrite stuff, making anakin and vader seperate is the least of what needs to be changed.

No, they should've gone with the original line:

"Obi-Wan killed your father."

Now, that would've been something....

Funny isent it, Palpatine did learn how to cheat death so to speak in the EU.

Yeah, but only in the EU, the discussion was about what happens in the films.

However, in the EU wasn't that a clone of Palapatine and not him, and didn't the clone die?

Yeah, but that was my point, death whether natural or otherwise, had not been prevented so why should Anakin believe such an obvious untruth? Only thing I can see was that Palpatine was a vampire and therefore part of the undead and so was already in on the know

I dunno, if you lived in a galaxy where a mystical force could work miracles, you might just believe it has the power to prolong life.

It just occured to me that in ROTJ, Luke says, "Master Yoda, you can't die." To which Yoda replies, "Strong am I in the Force -- but not that strong," or something to that effect. Doesn't that imply that it might be theoretically possible to cheat death via the Force?

Oh well. So, who wants to be in my new band "Death By Lightsaber"? Any suggestions as to what our first single should be? tongue.gif

Hum, this quote seems to me to be suggesting that is is impossible to cheat death, if even the great Yoda can't do so.

So what we do know is that someone manipulated the midiclorians to create Anakin, and its between Palpatine and Plageous. I like Storm's theiry that Plageous was tinkering around and managed to do it, but I concede the point that Lucas isn't clever enough anymore to give us that so its Palpatine which assumes he does know how to create a life at great concentration and time to suit his needs. This begs the question whether he knows how to cheat death and won't share with Vader to keep him loyal, or he really doesn't know. If he doesn't know the secret, none of the subsequent events show that either of them looked to solve the mystery, it seems it dropped as a priority when Palps tells Vader he inadvertently killed Padme.

The talk about the prophecy being misinterpreted doesn't sit well either. On the 11th hour before their destruction all of a sudden the Jedi start to have doubts. Wonderful. This also implies Palps knew about the prophecy and used it to his ends to get an agent (indirectly) into the Jedi order to bring it down so he could be absolute ruler.

Having Vader injured and taking Padme away keeps him in line then because he's more focused on his pain and lashing out than seeing the Emperor for what he really is.

Palps does the hand on Vader's head to revive him similar to Obi Wan doing the same to Luke when he scares the Sandpeople away, so its a Jedi/Sith way of rejuvinating someone. Supposedly Palps was going to be trained as a Jedi but didn't make it, maybe he learned this before moving on or being expelled.

If I have my facts straight, what's the really big need to turn Luke if he managed to pretty much get everything with Vader? Going after Luke as a new Sith seems like a very risky longshot.

Curse you, Lucas, and your first draft/wastepaper basket logic, or lack thereof....

I can't believe i'm defending lucas (i think he got this one for pure luck, too) but i think the emperor tought about turning Luke after he destroyed the Death Star One. I mean, he wanted this guy in their side! and you take him out of the rebels. Of course the best solution is to just shoot the hero in the head, but then
you must curse every action movie's last minute getaway and practically all James Bond.(Hmm, maybe that is a good idea)

Please somebody tell me i'wrong so i can back to sleep!

okay, i can't believ people are still struggling with this.

Palpatine is Anikans 'father'

do really think George "I've got a bad feeling about this"/"be mindful of your thoughts"/"ouch you cut off my hand"/"everyone's related"/"christ, even chewie and yoda knew each other" Lucas wasn't going to repeat something like the main character being the son of the main bad guy!?!
