I did a bit of reading on Batman Begins, because it looks like a really incredible film. What I found was that the director and writer seem to want to make a real movie, and are using real sets and real people to do it. Hearing about what they did for this reminds me of the production of the OT. And a lot of the comments I read from the production crew seem to indicate that this is a reaction to films like the PT which put so much stock into computer effects and such.

SW wasn't mentioned directly but the PT really led the charge towards excessive computer graphics and I think that Batman Begins is kind of a reaction against excess. (look at the other recent batman films and you can see that they need to move away from that to revive that franchise) I think in about sixteen days we should all check out this film and try to compare it to the prequel trilogy, because it'll be interesting to see the one style set against the other.

Totally agree, Batman Begins looks like it's gonna rock! I read another interesting tidbit on the production of the movie. When they were going to shoot the scenes in Arkham, they wanted an aged, nightmarish feel to the place. Instead of going Lucas and digitally altering the picture, they simply filmed it with a vintage russian camera. cool.gif

I had high hopes for Batman Begins but when I learned more details I was bitterly disappointed. I was hoping for an adaptation of Batman: Year One (a far superior comic, BTW, to the overhyped The Dark Knight Returns) instead of what we're apparently going to get, just another comic-book film packed with tedious supervillains. Another opportunity lost.
