Imagine a football team, the members are of all creeds and races. Then in a plane crash, all the team members die except for two Korean guys.

Does that make them a special new kind of race?

I know basic taxonomy - for all SPQR might say... a race or subspecies is composed of morphologically alike individuals that are nevertheless capable of copulating with morphologically different but genetically similar individuals of the same species and produce viable offspring.
Yoda and Ben are not morphologically alike.
Where in sweet freaking hey did you get the idea that yoda started life as a human?!
Besides - the only possible gentic similarity is in the much-debated midichlorians, which ALL THINGS POSESS, therefore you cannot claim that because the Jedi posess midichlorians they are a different race to anything else, especially since Yoda is not human, or even humanoid.
And one final trip - where in heck did you get the idea that aliens use midichlorians (therefore the Force) less effectively and "the fact that they are all humans constitutes a race." Read your Linnaeus again, and check out what a subspecies is. A labrador is a subspecies (breed or race), and an Eskimo is a subspecies (breed or race) owing to morphological similarities within a race.
Races do not concern themselves with genetic similarities or differences - that's the species boundary, they deal with morphological traits - Yoda and Ben are almost morphologically opposite, but you still lump them in your Jedi race.
(I still think two people is too few to actually claim there is a race)

The ability to feel the Force is more a quality rather than a trait. Like shoe size or being tall. I wouldn't say it constitutes a good basis for founding a race.
I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

Dude, go learn some Taxonomy. Carlus Linnaeus anyone?
wether you CHOSE to reproduce or not does not effect your race!!!

Jedi, constituting a race, sorry that is unlikely on so many levels. And as has been touched upon, an entire race choosing not to reproduce will definitely have an indirect effect on that race. Also, the ability to use the force is just that, an ability. Hippos and salmon share the ability of being able to swim - the famous hippo-salmon race anyone?

This was however, not my main beef with the previous arguments... Carlus Linneaus? The most notable scientist from my little country is properly called Carl Linné. Just because someone chooses to publish their findings in Latin does not lead to an immediate adoption of a name Latin-style. Newtonus, anyone? If you are going to namedrop a science classic in support of a strange argument, please try to get at least the namedropping right!

Carl Linnaeus, Carolus Linnaeus (latin), Carl Linné or Carl von Linné (after becoming ennobled). All work fine, important men sometimes have many names. Ben Obi-Wan, Mithrandir Gandalf Grey Wanderer etc. Yes, I'm from that small country too and among us he is usually referred to as Carl von Linné. thumbsup.gif

Yes, but it would not change the fact that they are of the human race.

Then go blame Carolus Linnaeus since it was he who elected to write under the latinized version of his own name!
Do you call Sting, Eminem, Bono, Pele and others by the name they elected for themselves or their birth names?
Namedropping? The fact is that today the swedes have to petition the government for last names because they are so g-damned unoriginal. One guy gets a little eccentric and creative and the other Swedes get all upset, but that's how it's always been up there in no-mans-land: swim with the crowd!

perhaps because they were all exterminated in a brief battle of survival of the fittest. The last ones standing were humans, if we are to assume that Yoda is in fact a mutated humanoid- maybe the force over all the years deformed him.

Yeah, you need significant genetic variations to justify a racial subdivision. Humanoids with high midoclorians probably fits into this if they are black, white, asian whatever. (There are no such things as these races among humans as this is a social phenomenon) There is only a human race. This jedi race has extremely high genetic variation from other humans, thus they are a race apart!
Blame GL, I didn't introduce genetics into SW

Jeez guys, there's no reason to get nasty. I tried to smooth things over in my previous post, but since it was disregarded it obviously didn't work huh... rolleyes.gif

Oh and SPQR, it's more a case of an overprotective socialist government, than the self imposed "swim with the crowd" thing. You should see the names of some kids over here... smile.gif

I'm sorry, bad day, I have a fever and am a bit irritable. Anyway, I read about Goran Kropp before his death. He explained why he had to escape Sweden when he became famous, how people were trying to tear him down. A Swedish friend supported Kropp's assessment and how the over oppresiveness seeps into the social fabric, he left when he became a master at Küb ;-)

Hey, that's cool. There is, I must admit, some truth to what your swedish friend said. "Don't think you're better than anyone else, we are all alike". Too common over here and I hate that part of our society. Socialism gone bad. If you've seen The Incredibles you know what I'm talking about. thumbsup.gif
