Your virginity, forgive me for saying it, is not a tangible thing that you give to someone. Unless this special fellow is a player who likes to boast about the cherries he's popped, or an insecure bastard who can't handle the idea that you had a life before you met him, it should mean fuck all to him. On the whole what if subject you're all wrong. Switzerland would have fucking DOMINATED. It dosn't matter what theoretical scenario you put forth, my answer will always be that Switzerland would have fucking dominated. Even if you're just asking what if Lee had won at Gettysburg, Switzerland would still have dominated. The only reason Switzerland does not currently rule the world is because things went completely wrong for them. If even the most insignificant event were altered we'd be wearing leiterhosen right now.

By the by, does anyone find it odd that virginity is only viewed as a posession by males in reference to females? Fathers want to keep their daughters virginity, men want to take women's virginity, etc etc.

Civ, JM, thanks for bringing it up. You're a breath of fresh air in these quarters I have always found the idea of "keeping virginity", "demanding virginity" a bit disturbing. What is the big deal anyway? Are women who have sex somehow worse than men having sex or women who did not have sex? So I am glad there are guys who don't give a damn about this stuff.

Oh, I suppoe this is because of the purely anatomical factors How can you prove to me that you are a virgin? (ok, you can by talking to unicorns and finding the Holy Grail ) . Although this argument is not valid any more for women these days. There are ways to restore the technicality - muslem women do it Anyway, I don't want to talk about it (then why I am doing it ?)

Hey, no fair, I haven't seen any unicorns either. They must all live in your backyard. But in any case, if you "give someone your virginity," they don't gain an extra virginity, or have virginity, or anything like that. Which makes virginity much unlike an STD.

I couldn't agree with you more. From the opposite perspective, I see nothing appealing about virgin boys. They're shaky, clumsy, and short-lived if you will; not the way I'd want to spend a wedding night. If it's abstract sentiment, write a poem, if it's a gift, I'm easy enough to buy for, and if it's a feeling of moral superiority, there are more important arenas to practise the preaching in.

From the whole giving/losing thing people get the idea that it is a thing in itself, not the absence of a thing. Purity of any form is about absence, not presence.
Besides, if it can be given or lost, it can be collected... (Collect the whole set! Auction! One American Beauty-style said-she-wasn't-but-she-was virginity going for $$$$... next on the auction, lot 169, an MG TF 160) and that's just a weird concept.
