I can handle the reading... Don't think I'm illiterate, it's just that too much reading can get just as dull as having cutscenes that are way too long.

Gahh, memories of xenosaga flooding back to me. No, why did you have to mention cutscenes? WHY?

I never understood the gripe about reading though, I mean, you can just not read and still get from point A to point B and not read the dialog that happens there.

Writing can be annoying if it isn't done properly, same as anything else. Planescape: Torment strikes me as an excellent example of good use of writing, but I can't think of a bad example off the top of my head.
