Should Jabba be in A New Hope? CGI, original footage, or not at all?

Flying Ferret

Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

He shouldnt be in ANH, because his dialogue is so similar to the words exchanged between Greedo and Han five minutes earlier. Its like watching the same scence twice. Shame on you Lucas.
It seems like everyone is over the nitpicking. Too bad.

Maybe it's because Jaba doesn't yet know that Han killed Greedo. Even if he did Jaba, plays it like the cool cat that he is, he didn't even get pissed when Han unexpectedly tried to walk through his tail.

Jabba lusting after human women is weird but isn't it part of the game of pulp sci-fi? Ugly monsters slobbering over half-draped females - seems pretty standard to me, especially on cheap paperback covers from the '40s and '50s.

And I do think Jabba is a lame villain, or lamely executed in any case. He doesn't really do anything himself and his lackeys make the Stormtroopers look like expert marksmen.

And, yeah, Huttese is suspiciously close to English, isn't it? Especially with lovely words like "poodoo" and "sleemo".

Jabba was better left unseen until Return of the Jedi.

I don't have a big problem with Jabba being in there. It isn't that big of a deal, considering the idea to have him meet up with Han was there in the original plan of the movie.

It was in the original plan, but if you read the Gary Kurtz interview, it is clear that the Greedo scene was extended to cover everything meant for the failed Jabba scene. Thats why the dialogue is similar, thats why the Jabba scene is redundant, and thats why its pointless!!! devil.gif

Jabba does say "Han why did you have to fry poor Greedo?" so I think its safe to say he knows about them both shooting first.

Why Jabba has to venture out of the palace to give Han a message is beyond me, I thought that's why crime lords employed lackeys or he could have employed the use of a holographic projector. I'm sure he had one in his palace and that there must have been one somewhere on Mos Eisley.

And if you're going to add the unnecessary appearance by Jabba in ANH, why not add a holo communication in ESB between him and Boba Fett in Cloud City to contimue his appearance/ C Boba saying he got him and in Carbonite none the less, so the bounty hunters could be called off as he's the winner......
