C'mon.  Nitpickers.  The dude just betrayed everyone he ever cared about for Padme.  Upon finding out that he gave up everything for nothing, of course he would be in shock.  Even Darth Vader.  He is after all, only human... and part machine... biggrin.gif

Yeah but its also HORRIBLE acting. James Earl Jones delivers the lines like he'd rather be reading anything else. If it was well done it might be excusible

Oh man, we are now using Cingular commercials as a reason to cry about Darth Vader's Noooooo... Wow... I weep for the future.
"And shepherds we shall be for Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti!!!"

Really. Even in the ringtones commercial Chewie gets to deliver his line a number of different ways. And this is supposedly James Earl Jones. Maybe he was P.O.'d he'd only get one take, but I'm not believing that the ehhnnNOOOOOOOoooo we heard was the best that they had.

That line could have been emoted fifteen other ways. It's only a matter of record now, worthy of nitpicking. Sweeping score beneath included.

Oops... responded to my own post. Oh well... What I said about the crying about the Vader Noooo, that was for you.

I'm going to ignore the above two posts, as they make no sense at all.

That's true. That doesn't mean that I can excuse a scene as utterly awful as that was, though.

I couldn't take Vader's Noooo! seriously. The first thing that came to mind was the episode of The Simpsons where Homer's learning how to be a body guard. Edit: Mark Hamill was in that episode too. Ironic much? That pretty much ruined the mood, if you will. Why couldn't it have been an incoherent scream or more rage?

You have got to be kidding me...

That really whiney "Noooooooooooooo!" is actually from the movie? I haven't seen the movie yet but... I'd probably burst out laughing once I hear that scene. LOL!

It reminded me of a Shelly Frankenstein novel.

Yes, that too... whistling.gif Anti-science propaganda isn't the first thing my mind hops to; but then I'm biased.

It's NOT nitpicking when the existence of Vader is pointless in the PT---WHY does Palpatine NEED him alive!? What is the point! You can't say because he's a powerful Jedi because this has been shot down in two ways

1) Anakin hasn't appeared any more powerful than any other Jedi in the prequels!---NO POWERFUL---and drop the 'but he has so many midi's b.s.' That doesn't cut it! I want to SEE him powerful so that he is of value to Palpatine, and he isn't

2) Lucas himself said that Vader is now "pathetic" as a Jedi.... so, AGAIN... what is the point to Palpatine saving him!?

If Palpatine had made efforts to retain his apprentices, I may accept this, but Maul is expendable in I and Dooku is summarily done away with in III.

Flying Ferret

Battle for the Galaxy--read the "other Star Wars"

All I know is I haven't seen the real prequels yet.

The Darth Vader scene where he screams "Nooo!" is a good scene. It's funny that the nitpickers complain that Lucas has never been in touch with another human being, yet they don't even understand human emotional responses.

The best way I can explain a nitpicker's response to a similar situation is as follows.

*The scene takes place in a hospital late at night. The Nitpicker was drunk driving with his girlfriend and got into a huge car accident. Several people were killed, although the Nitpicker barely survived*

DOCTOR: Nitpicker, can you hear me?

NITPICKER: Yes, Doctor. Where is my girlfriend? Is she all right?

DOCTOR: I'm afraid that in your refusal to allow a sober person to drive, you got into a huge car accident. Five people have been killed, including your girlfriend. Furthermore, you have lost the ability to use both of your arms and legs....

Normal Human Response
NITPICKER(emotions of anger, guilt, and regret building up):Noooooo!

Nitpicker's Response
NITPICKER(exhibiting no emotions):Drat. Anyhow, get me another beer.

I think that it's annoying that GL keeps trying to pay homage to other works (Frankenstien walk, anyone?). We want a movie that other people pay homage to, not the other way around.

Vader's response was so over-the-top and ridiculous that for a second I thought I was watching a parody of Star Wars. If it makes you laugh rather than sympathize then it obviously doesn't work. There are better ways to show that someone is devastated than having them scream "Nooooooooooooo." That's the kind of response you would see in a play written by a 10 year old.

Luke screams "Noooooo!" when he finds out Darth Vader is his father.

The scene worked well for me. I was easily able to sympathize for him.
