Um...I'm pretty sure Vader didn't want to kill her. "She was alive! I felt it!"

he choked her til she dropped.

he does a total 180. His character is over the place in such a manner that it would have only worsened with age.

You have to keep in mind that the funny part of the scene is James Earl Jones' reading of the line. On the set, it was just Hayden's muffled voice, which I'll bet was nowhere near as hilarious.

i'll take a piece of that action. thumbsup.gif

if his hand movements were anything to go by, not to mention his earlier blubbery delivery of "what have i done?"

i'll wager it was utterly gutbustingly funny

No way was it better than JEJ's rendition of the line. I hope Lucas one day releases all the movies with the original Vader dialogue tracks available. Apparently, David Prowse sounded pretty funny in there -- and when he realized that nothing he said would actually make it into the film, he really started having fun with the part. One story goes that instead of saying "I do not care about asteroids, commander...I want that ship!" he said "I do not care about hemroids, commander...I need to shit!"

As far as the force choke scene goes...Padme drops *after* Anakin releases her. He was trying to stop before she died. And he did, too. That's why he's shocked when the Emperor tells him differently.

"I couldn't have! She was alive! I felt it!"

"I couldn't have! She was alive! I felt it!"

just makes it worse, because of reacting to the news by saying NOOOOOOOOOO! that comes after a little denial.

NOOOOOOOOOOO is the kind of thing, if anything, you say witnessing or finding something. that was the whole argument before wasn't it?
...that someone says NOOOOOOOOOOO in shock? but ani sat on it for a few seconds and continued discussing the issue.

shock/denial -then- panic/pleading... not vice versa.

you've actually helped me explain the absurdity with a little more clarity... thanks. smile.gif

Ohhhh, now I understand your point. Yeah, that is much clearer now. And it's a pretty good point, too.

I suppose Lucas was going for a delayed scream of anguish, like it's building up...hence all the Force-destruction of the lab. It wouldn't have been so silly-sounding if it were just a howl, or a sob -- or if JEJ didn't give us the best line reading of his entire career. happy.gif

JEJ really wasn't trying either... i guess he just read the script (or saw the PT in general) and though screw it...whatever.
