Hi- I'm a n00b. Nice to see an introductory thread.

My name is Whirlpool (not sure why I chose that). I'm 19, female, a second-year sciences student at university and an employee at a library. I enjoy music (mostly an eclectic assortment, but with definate indie rock leanings), movies, reading...average stuff.

I joined this forum because the folks here seem like reasonable people, and because I was LMAO when I read the "Reasons to Hate Star Wars" lists.

Human nutrition, presuming my grades are good enough to get into the program. Otherwise, I'll be the only person in the Journalism program who could also tell you the structure of a benzene ring.

I'm impressed! (or, were you using Google? If so, good research skills).

Oh yeah, Barend is renowned for his reserach skills.

Anyway, guys, I wish you would stop posting in l33t, or whatever you call it. It is so last year. Nobody does it anymore, which is really fine by me, it's damn difficult to read. I'm with Slade here

But ok, Barend managed to impress one girl, but mind you that was his research skills not l33t.

google...

but i thought it'd give you a buzz for a few seconds...

i went out with a lazer physisist for a short while, so i'm not totally clueless when it comes to science conversational skills,

but nutrition is not my area...

(as most of my friends would tell you)

edit: actually you're right, i responded in under 2 minutes... geek.gif

Hey and welcome. Thanks for backing me up, Ms. Corvax. I wouldn't advise journalism as a career unless you plan on being lucky enough to work for a big name paper, or are more concerned with enjoying your job than supporting yourself. Most of the companies that own newpapers/magazines are large corporations who treat their workers like dirt. My dad majored in journalism and was kicked in the teeth for 15 years before he was fired for writing an anonymous editorial which expressed opinions that were... let's say considered thoughtcrime by some people with enough power to get others fired if they wanted to.

But thumbsup.gif if you're shooting for just doing something you like, and even more if you get the science thing going. And don't let me scare you away, just be wary. I've sacrificed all chances of romantic involvement with entities that could be considered both female and human, and what even an extreme introvert could consider a decent social life, to go to a tech college and pursue an Information Technology degree for job security. Otherwise I'd be a Philosophy/Music/English major. Or a rock star.

(*waves*)

Welcome to the madhouse, Whirlpool, and may I be the first to let out a tearful "Thank you!" of joy for being able to speak coherently. The leet...it burns my eyes so...

And my respect to anyone with a head for sciences, as I am incapable of comprehending even basic high school material.
Check out my crappy drawings!

Welcome. Good to see somebody else with a more science orientation. I was thinking Madame, Jordan and myself would be alone. Not that I know anything about nutrition, but its still not arts or english.

Yay, a n00bster that actually types coherently. I'm sure the pope will give you a blessing for that. (I don't expect you to understand what I'm talking about)

Otherwise, welcome! We need more women around here. Currently there's bout... 4-5.
