Okay, let's get back to focusing on the topic of the thread rather than having a debate about writing.  I just think it serves no point to write sloppy as it makes it difficult for the readers to understand what the writer is trying to say.

I think you mean, "write SLOPPILY", right?
If you write "sloppy", you are literally writing the word.

Tsk, tsk, tsk....

Nice way to avoid the facts. My whole point in replying to this thread was to impress the irrelevance of spelling/grammar on these forums.

Gash!

2. "Don't seem to remember ever owning a droid. Very interesting..."
(a) Obi-Wan never owned a droid. Part of the Jedi Code involved owning no material possessions, or something to that extent. Yes, Obi-Wan did fly around with R4 in his Jedi Starfighter, but that didn't mean he owned him.
(cool.gif R2-D2 is a droid. Droids seem to be mass produced. There could be thousands of droids in the galaxy that look exactly like R2-D2 so that would be a big assumption on Ben's part to assume this particular droid was R2-D2. Although I am sure at some point during ANH Ben learns R2's identification, I just don't see why he would care that much. It's not like him and R2 would sit down and have a friendly conversation about what happened in the last 20 years.

He met R2D2 in ep1. R2 somehow became anikans by ep.2
obiwan was constatnly with anikan the whole time... he spent about 15 years with that droid, then only a little more time away from it... he was around that droid alot!!! and during times when many jedi were killed, worlds were changed, wars began...

I'm sorry; it really is quite inexcusable for him not to remember R2...

He never owned him; i know that, that's not the point...

He doesn't even recognise him... droids are mass produced, but they have registered designations that are unique. Only just, but they are...

3. "He was the best star-pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior.
I understand you've become quite a good pilot yourself. And he was a
good friend. Which reminds me..."

How has Luke become a good pilot by this point? Is he absolutely unreal at driving a landspeeder? Podracing seems a lot more difficult than driving a landspeeder, so if you accept Ben's line "I understand you've become quite a good pilot yourself" then you must also accept his line that "Your father was already a great pilot when I first met him".

" I used to bull's-eye womp rats in my T-16 back home"
-Luke (not referring to his land speeder)

Inexcusable. Being on the internet should not give you an excuse to write poorly. If you practice using internet slang consistently, the quality of your writing will decrease.

I hope you were being sarcastic there....

I was being somewhat sarcastic. But I do tend to ignore posts if the quality of writing or organization is really bad.

And what is a T-16? I have a hard time believing the Lars owned any type of spacecraft. If they did, I'm sure Luke would have taken off a long time ago.

the T-16 or skyhopper is only shown part during Star Wars, but the little model luke swishes around when he's looking bored and distracted while Threepio's talking. In the clunkily edited red leader/biggs/luke addition to the Special Edition the bits that were clunkily edited out mentioned the skyhopper again - and the Tosche station scene that was also cut out when the alternate introduction for Luke was opted for also featured the skyhopper.
It was a kind of aircraft, so Luke couldn't fly out of Tatooine in it, but it meant he was a capable pilot and navigator.
There you have it, the story of the Incom T-16 "Skyhopper" - closely related to the Incom T-65 "X-wing" and the Incom T-47 Airspeeder.
Hah! While gushers can cite clone wars cartoons and the official affiliation novels, us dirty old bashers can bring in the EU and the deleted OT scenes... hah, as they say in the classics, two can play at that game.

I was really hoping that some allusion would be made to that.  I was hoping that Kenobi's dispatching of Anakin would be more uncertain, i.e., he falls over the side of a cliff and Obi-Wan tries to look down but all he sees is smoke, but no Anakin. So, he assumes he fell into the lava and leaves, but sad.  He sees the saber and picks it up.  In Episode III it seems so callous.

I think this scene wouldn't have been so glaring if Obi-Wan had been shown trying to redeem Anakin. In my mind, though, Anakin got what he deserved. Obi-Wan couldn't let him go, but he couldn't bring himself to kill him, either. I see Obi-Wan's actions not as callous so much as just conflicted. He thought that there was no saving him, couldn't let him go free to wreak havoc, but didn't have the real heart to kill him, either. As far as mercy killing, did Anakin deserve mercy? According to the Jedi, the physical world is not what is important, anyway. Obi-Wan believes in The Force, not the physical realm; of course, in cases of human suffering, the Jedi would step in and do something, I think, but at this point, Obi-Wan viewed Anakin as an abomination against nature and not really human - this at least is supported by the OT ("He's more machine now than man.").Also, if viewed from a spiritual viewpoint, Anakin caused his own fate, so why should Obi-Wan change that fate if he believes that the Sith are truly evil? He probably believed that this was the will of The Force. Yes, it's callous by our standards, but not probably by Obi-Wan's. This is a lame example, but here goes - if you could free Satan from Hell, would you? Doing that would be defying God's will that that is Satan's fate, despite the fact that Satan is being tortured. Like Satan, Anakin only brought this upon himself. These are my thoughts, at least. Let me know what you think.

you guys are so quick to try and explain any question i have about the many gaping holes in the plot of the prequels with your countless theories, but the second some OT cannon comes your way you don't know what's going on...

no wonder you guys defend the PT so much...

you don't remember the OT at all!!!

If I remember correctly, Luke is in the doghouse for battering the T-16 which is why he's sulky.

It looks like a modified Imperial Shuttle. Why would they own that ship? They are just farmers!

Also, why would a grown man like Luke be playing with a model of the ship?

It's probably their main mode of transport aside from the Landspeeder.

The little model came with the ship, just like the Mini's.

That is correct. They cruise at fairly high altitudes - good for rocky terrain where Landspeeders would be useless.

The reason Luke was playing with the model - he's not really a grown man, he's still a farmboy... and he busted the hopper mock-dogfighting with his mates - the first edit of SW introduced Luke when, after watching the corvette battle on his macrobinoculars he went into Anchorhead and Tosche station to tell all his mates about the battle - it also introduced Biggs, and tells you about the busted hopper. However, though the original edit is quite good, the one we see today is a shorter and simpler film with an easier flow.
However, it was interesting that the Special Edition didn't revert back to the original comprehensive edit, but it took some things from that version and so the Biggs and Jabba scenes felt really tacked-on... effectively they were from different movies.

I'm pretty sure it's more difficult to pilot a podracer than a T-16.

Speaking of which, how does Luke learn how to pilot an X-wing in less than 30 minutes? That's about as realisitic as say....hmm....Anakin learning how to pilot a Naboo starfighter. I can imagine piloting a space ship is quite different than piloting a ship that flies at high altitudes on a planet.

Really - have you piloted a podracer? - also the skyhopper and X-wing are supposed to be made by the same people, so the control layout is effectively the same, just that the payload is different.
