They predicted snow and we got it. When they predict snow that means that they put a parking ban into effect. That means that I and my roommates must engage in a Three Stooges like routine of shuffling our cars around in our less than ample driveway to get them off the street.

It's 2:00 in the afternoon and I can only assume that the parking ban was because This Glorious City dislikes cars interacting with snow because it sure as hell isn't to allow plows passage.

I can't say I'm too fond of the white 'n' powdery stuff though. Not my idea of a nice day at all.

what irks me about snow is when they predict it everyone goes bonkers like a meteor is about to hit, i work in a supermarket and its chaos and disorder when snow is on the way, dont matter if its 2 inches or 12.

Since I live less than ten miles away from mrtimp I can vouche for that! Everyone in this area needs to get their bread and milk because, apparently, having the two most perishable food items possible is important in case they get snowed in.

Nice article, I am laughing hysterically =) just to add one more tid bit of info here on snowstorms, I love local news stations who have to remind everyone going out on the roadways to drive safely everytime there is snow, I mean DUH!!!! common sense tells you rubbers tires and slick snow covered surfaces arent meant to be driven on at 80 MPH, also I love when they send reporters out to cover the storm in the worst of conditions, what did this guy or girl do wrong to banish them to outside storm duty??? I would like to send a personal thank you to the plow driver who hit my fathers car today, god bless you.

On plows:
I was going for a walk with my girlfriend the other day. It was late, dark and all, totally silent. Then out of the stillness came this line of plows, slow turning yellow lights, almost just as silent, driving along an arcing road towards a church parking lot where they all gathered and in the distance I swear it looked like they were just driving in circles. Like they were dancing. We could only see their lights through a small stretch of trees. It was completely surreal. Like we had witnessed something magical we weren't supposed to.

Yeah, so anyway...

I thought it sounded beautiful and surreal, but then, snow plow ballet sounds perfectly delightful to me.
I have a recent plow story as well:
I was standing near the roadside, enjoying a pleasantly mild winter morning with a lung-shredding cigarette, when I saw the plow coming. "Strange, I thought, the road is already clear." Then I saw that the blade was down. Now, the plow had to be doing at least 60km/hr (the speed limit on that road), which meant that it was flinging the brown slushy snow at the side of the road about 10 feet through the air across lawns, and right onto peoples' front doorsteps. Realizing that there was no way I could get away from the forthcoming hail of brown slushy snow, I turned my back, shielded my face, and awaited the worst. The slushy snow hit me, I cursed, calling the driver a "mother fucker", and grudgingly finished my smoke. I could have sworn I heard the driver laughing maniacally as he passed.

I go through the three stooges routine as well just before a storm, and they don't even plow the part of the road where my daughter parks. So this nitwit ( me ) is out there the next day shovelling the GD street so that my daughter has a place to park again. Apparently common sense is not a requirement for operating a plow. It makes me CRAZY!!! Not a very long journey...

It always gets better as the year progresses but every year when the snow falls the first time it's as if the world is caught off guard. "What?!? What is this now??" As if it had never occured to anyone that it could snow in the middle of December. Then they have to scramble the fleet of plows but by that time it's too late.

My road still hasn't been touched. Good thing I have four wheel drive.

There was only a slight hint of fear in the atmosphere. Mostly out of awe and being intruduced to some strange and mysterious happening we were completely unprepared for. But mostly beauty. Yup, definitely beauty.

On snow:

I just recently discovered that while my small art school judges snow days on whether or not a neihboring, larger school declares them, they (the neihboring school) also call them depending on whether or not we do. For years, CCS has been notorious for never calling school off, even in the worst of weather.

Stupid. Just... stupid.
