I am putting together a portfolio of sorts for a writing job I am applying for. The job requires humorous writing as well as a grasp of pop culture, computer tech stuff and video games. I think I have a pretty good shot at it from those particular angles.

I just wanted you all to help me pick my best article. A complete list of my articles can be found here. I've narrowed it down to some of my favorites and posted links to them all.

I don't expect everyone to read everything I've ever written but I think it would be a huge help for anyone interested in letting me know what they think. If you have an article not listed here please list it with the URL so I can consider it tallied.

Here are the articles on the ballot for those interested:

Extinct Beverage: Orbitz
What if Pikachu pooped in some Pine Sol? Find out in this review.

Patriotic Bumper Stickers
Don't get caught with your pants down when the inevitable American/British lead invasion of Iraq begins. Show your support for the war with these new patriotic bumper stickers!

Lingerie Poetry
The lovely ladies of daytime TV wax poetic on the sexiest of women's undergarments.

Twin Sitters
The Barbarian Brothers' swan song.

Amazing But True Cat Facts
All the answers to your insane questions about felines.

78 Reasons to Hate Star Wars: Episode I
Because bad movies can ruin lives.

64 Reasons to Hate Star Wars: Episode II
Reasons to hate the sequel to The Phantom Menace by popular demand. No REALLY, it's the first thing that I've ever done that was actually demanded!

Join the Cub Scouts or DIE!
Recently uncovered propaganda by the Cub Scouts of America.

What is the Purpose of Life?
According to some Christians it is to tease wild bobcats.

Thanks to those who have voted so far! I would be interested in comments anyone would have on the particular articles they chose and why they think that article is the best.

I know why Jeff picked Twin Sitters, because it is one of his favorite movies.

Anyone else?

me like barbarian brothers.

the Star Wars messageboard being the most contentful, means i read it the most, meaning i'm sick of evening thinking about thinking about star wars, so your most famous articles didn't get my vote.

I'd go with meaning of life, though I also consider all of the extinct beverages to show capacity for great prose and a willingness to risk your life for an amusing story that I think would demonstrate your zeal for writing quite effectively.

The time you went to the Batting cage was funny. All the beverage rants. SW lists. Texas comptroller. Break down of zelda. The PLEASE FLUSH sign. etc..

Extinct Beverages have always been my favourite. I especially like the one that describes the drink with gelatin balls inside, but perhaps it is not the best choice for a serious job as a humorous writer. But I’d go with other beverages, following JM Hoffmarn line of thinking. Although naturally I love SW articles too, not everyone is a die-hard fan.

I voted Episode 1. Why? Because were it not for those articles, I don't know if I'd have ever stuck around L&E as long as I have.

The starwars were good, but I had to give it to the Scouts. I loved how you credited all the info to their site.

Yeah. I've got to re-post that Interview with Yvette Spindler, too.

It makes you think.

More specifically, it makes you think we should have hung out more when we only lived 50 miles away, rather than now when you're in Stinkberg, meeting movie stars & I'm over in Smelltown meeting the people who play movie stars in television adaptions!

"Twinsitters" is really good, but I would correct its few misspellings before submitting it as resume material. The LISTS (esp ep 1) are great resume stuff, especially if accompanied by the EW article that references them, or at least a mention thgat such a reference exists. Even this site ought to be evidence enough that they're popular.

"Purpose of Life" is off the wall and just stops cold, which for me is always funny. don't know why, but when an article appears like it's goign to be building up steaqm and then it just stops, I always get a chuckle. I think they could take a lesson there over at SNL. Some of the best Monty Python skits were the ones that would just end right after the punchline. Some of the worst SNL skits are, well, all of them.

I have to admit I haven't read very many of your articles, but of what I've read I think the reviews are the best. The review for IRON WARRIOR is side-splitting: " Instead of sword fighting, Mr. Warrior grabs some spears off the wall and throws them at Ator. Ator catches them and throws them back. The Iron Warrior catches them and throws them back. This goes on. It's reminiscent of the famous battle scene at the end of Field of Dreams where the father and son hurl baseballs at each other..." While the game review "Ghosts and Wizards and Goblins and Warriors" has the plus of being funy as well as nostalgic. I think you'll hit your target audience with that one.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

I don't know what it was exactly about the articles on government related websites but "Pictures of Texas State Officials" and "Crappy Things Found on Rhode Island Websites (pt. 1)" were side-splitting.

And I of course love the extinct beverages from the bottom of my heart. It's very difficult to choose. My vote is not yet placed.

"Pictures of Texas State Officials"

The article is FUNNY! The fact that he actually bothered to do the research is even more funny.

All the movie reviews are great.

His snarky comments beside the pictures he took while on vacation (namely Toronto) are great too. The zoo sign about goats and the Pepsi machine with duct tape are classic.
