but we've hardly explored any of the universe. I'd understand these opinions if it came from someone who had seen all of the universe, but humans haven't done that. I don't see how anyone can be so certain

EDIT: I totally agree that Lucas was inconsistent in the lightsabre thing, along with basically everything else. I don't defend him at all in what he did with the alien-bleeding scene

QUOTE (Helena @ May 24 2005, 04:18 PM)
Lucas changed his mind, that's all there is to it. Seriously, why all the fuss over a very minor inconsistency that doesn't even affect the plot? This is why I'm starting to get so fed up of this forum...

I'm not fussing, I'm discussing what I think about this. That is what the forum is for, right?

Explanation -

Lucas made a boo-boo. Simple.

Let's face it, he's made plenty of them since ANH

I think that if sabers are hot, they would cauterize. Anyone know if they're hot?

Well, in the CLONE WARS Animated Cartoon, there is a showdown between Anakin and a female Sith assassin hired by Darth Tyrannus (I refuse to call him Dooku, it sounds so dumb).

In this showdown, they have their sabers out and it begins to rain. The rain hits them and a type of steam/vapor comes off of them.

That would lead me to believe that they are hot, but perhaps they are umeasurably hot to the touch, but they do not necessarily give off heat.

I dont know how that would work, but then again, how does jumping to hyperspace work?

Meh, I forgot to remember that in episode I, it burnt the door down. But in the OT, in both Vader/Luke duels, when they sliced the railing it didn't get all orange like melted metal does.

Verdict: Another inconsistancy. Lucas is a moron.

If you don't like Helena's argument, there's always the philosopher's approach - as carbon-based lifeforms, would we recognise other lifeforms as being alive? For instance, silicon would be the next most logical element but we'd probably dismiss a silicon-based lifeform as inanimate.

But yet he's smart enough to make a legacy giving him lots of money, fame, and will forever have people like you flocking to the internet to write bad things about him. Either way, you are just pushing Lucas into the forever realm of fame. Who's the idiot now?

You. You're doing the same thing about me, but you're actually praising the piece of crap prequels. Besides, if I stopped coming to this site, would GL lose any popularity? No.

There is no way on the internet I can describe how funny I think that is. I'm saving that picture for future use.

The alien in Star Wars bled.
Then in Empire Strikes Back, a different movie, Luke didn't bleed - largely for effect since it would have ruined the moment to see blood spurting from Luke's arm. In the PT the cuts burned and cauterised and didn't bleed.
If you feel you need an explanation - Ben's saber, being an old saber maintained as a hermit might maintain it rather than an active warrior might, it was running at less power and was therefore colder, while Vader in ESB and the Jedi in the PT were maintaining their lightsabers and charging them so they cauterised wounds.
