Before the release of ROTS I know a lot of gushers fell back on the "it will all be explained in Episode 3" argument when people brought up inconsistencies in the films. So I just have one question, was it explained? And if so was it explained in a satisfactory manner?

How Owen knew C3PO and R2D2 in AOTC, but forgets about them in ANH? No not even remotely touched upon.

How C3PO and R2D2 knew Owen and forgot about him in ANH? Yes, but not to my satisfaction. Why was only 3PO’s mind wiped how come R2’s mind didn’t get wiped too? And why was his mind wiped? It just seemed like a split second decision “these droids are yours now and have this one’s memory cleared out.” I could understand it if someone had said, “these droids know too much of what happened if they we ever captured it could be disastrous have their minds wiped.” But it appears 3PO’s mind was simply erased to try and patch a gaping plot hole.

Why Ben tells Luke he hasn’t gone by the name Obi-wan since before he was born? No.

How Palpatine was able to hide from the Jedi even though he was a Sith lord? Considering the on going debate in another thread about masking and the clouding of the Darkside I am going to say no not to general satisfaction.

Why some Jedi disappear when they die and others don’t? Nope not unless the cut scene with Qui-gon was supposed to reveal something extraordinary.

Obi-wan and Owen’s falling out? No not touched on with a ten foot pole.

Who Darth Tyrannus and Sifo Dias (sp) were and how they order all those clones and no one knew about it? No.

Why the technology is so much more advanced in the PT yet the OT takes place in the future? No, yet again the audience is left hanging.

Why midichlorains if they are so important to how the force works are never talked about in the OT. Not by a long shot.

How Anakin brings balance to the Force? All together now no!

Did I miss any?

Owen not recognising Threepio and Artoo can be blamed on the fact that they are only droids, like countless others in the galaxy. Note that Owen in A New Hope never finds out the droids' names, he just refers to them as "the droids". Even if he did recognise them, he wouldn't say anything because he has to protect Luke from his past.

Why they didn't have Artoo's memory erased is beyond me. I initally thought it was because no-one could understand what he was saying anyway, but if Artoo was captured, his capturers could still recover the information he was carrying. And wouldn't the memory-wiped Threepio be a bit suspicious if Artoo said "Hey, Threepio, you've just had your memory erased and your creator is really the evil dark lord of the Sith who has just taken over the galaxy, and his son and daughter are on Tatooine and Alderaan,"?

Obi-Wan's line in A New Hope about not going by the name of Obi-Wan, I assume, was just supposed to make it clear that he hadn't been called it in a long time. Not a very good explanation, but it's the only one that can really cover this plothole. The Jedi dissapearing act, IMHO, felt very rushed. How come Qui-Gon, who was far from being the greatest Jedi ever, learnt how to become one with the Force when thousands haven't? Lame.

Obi-Wan and Owen had a falling out? As far as I'm concerned, Owen just wanted Luke to stay away from Obi-Wan and becoming a Jedi. Obi-Wan makes it sound like Owen has been terrible to Luke, lying all these years, but I'm guessing it was partly Obi-Wan's idea to cover up Luke's history. We know who Darth Tyranus is (Count Dooku) from Attack of the Clones, and Sifo-Dias? Delving into the Expanded Universe (I did it so you didn't have to) revealed that Palpatine was the one who ordered the clone army, while Dooku was just the one who found an appropriate source (Jango Fett). This turn of events is depicted in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter (a crap game - stay well away).

Perhaps because nobody can understand R2? Or maybe because Yoda and Obi Wan knew R2 could help them in the future. Who knows what twisted logic is going through Lucas's mind.

And it's pretty obvious Sifo Dias was working for Sidious...He obviously was doing things behind the Jedi's back...though logic says the Jedi's still should've sensed this

And I still want to see how Leia can remember her real mother when she died as soon as Leia was born

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Well some people say that he brings balance because he kills all but 2 Jedi, which is 'balanced' with the 2 Sith. However, he DOESN'T kill all but 2 Jedi. He kills a bunch of Jedi, but a lot of the Jedi are killed by the clones as well.

Other people argue that he brings balance by ultimately killing Sidious in ROTJ. How this is a balance, I do not know.

I don't think the prophecy is explained. Maybe Qui Gon has it wrong, and Anakin wasn't the prophecized one.

Some of these things are plot holes, some of them aren't.

its an inconsistancy. although you could say that he did recognise them, thats why he wanted Luke to erase their memories so quickly. this only really goes for 3PO though, thinking about it. all R2 units look more or less the same. 3P0's voice is unmistakable though.

.

well yeah, you could say that. you could also say (as you did) that 3P0 knew too much. which makes sense to me. i suppose R2 ws left untouched because he cant speak english?

QUOTE

yep, another inconsistancy.

Dont get me started on this again!

QUOTE

Qui Gon explained it to Yoda, who gave obi instructions on how to learn it himself. the hows of it are unimportant (if thats what you were getting at).

QUOTE

I think Owen was just trying to keep Luke safe and away from all that madness.

QUOTE

Darth Tyrannus is Count Dooku (this is in AotC), but the Sifo Dyas thing is the single most annoying 'omission' from Lucas for me. He even said in the AotC DVD that it would be explained in RotS! I thought it was going to be some big plot point, but nope...he left it to the EU (the answer lies in Labrinth of Evil...)

QUOTE

The jedi technology is advanced, but who could use this when theres no more Jedi? Palps was all about cheap, easy to manifacture production line capitalism.

QUOTE

I'm halfway with you on this. it feels like an omission, but then again why would they be mentioned at all?

QUOTE
How Anakin brings balance to the Force? All together now no!

yes. he brings balance by destroying the sith (its in RotS). which he does, eventually.

Out of all those though, I only think the Sifo-Dias thing is a major head scratcher. that was the biggest disappointment in RotS for me.
