I would keep the more subtle changes, the ones that don't look bad - like the rancor fixes, the removal of boxes around spaceships, the bantha herd, etc...

The only important change I think that's an improvement is the short scene with Biggs ("they'll never stop us.") It's too short, maybe, but enough to get across the idea that Biggs is a friend of Luke's and not just another fighter pilot.

(Added:) Maybe some small graphical fixes. I'd jettison all the newer CGI because they look fakey and incongruous. The extra ice monster footage isn't bad but not necessary either. Frankly, almost all of the major changes hurt the film - the Jabba scene in SW, the extra footage of Vader near the end of ESB that hurts the pacing of the action, and of course the dreadful musical sequence added to ROTJ.

1. Biggs scene
2. Lightsaber cleanup in ANH
3. The overall cleaner look of the film/restoration
4. I know I am in the minority in this, but the added Death Star explosion effects. Something with that much power should have a much grander type explosion.
5. The added background scenes on Cloud City in the windows.
6. Since he played the emperor in all the films, I had no problems with Ian redoing the Vader scene in ESP.
7. The added celebrations across the universe when the Emperor and Death Star are destroyed. Ties into the other films considering Naboo and Coruscant were featured prominently in the PT and not again

None of the CGI. The visual cleanup job certainly. Not the way too red canyon scene with Artoo, not Greedo shooting first, not Jabba, not the ring in the death star explosion. Not the extended wampa, not the celebrations across the galaxy, not Vader arriving on the Executor, not the crappy Emperor-Vader dialogue from the DVDs (I'm ok with Ian replacing Clive, but not with the actual content change), not replacing "bring my shuttle", not "close the blast doors", not the musical number, the rancor wasn't actually cleaned up so you can't include that.

Changes I would keep... the cleanup of Vader's redeye, the overall visual cleanup, the improved sound, the replacement of the 'yub-yub' song with the other song. The biggs scene I don't mind but the editing in the scene is poor enough that I'd have to throw it out.

I'd like to see the 1995 THX Remastered editions. I'd also like to an everything movie... every scene, no editing, with the visual cleanups. Tosche station, Luke's hat and the Treadwell, Leia killing the Sail Barge guard, Luke and Leia in the snow tunnels, the full Biggs-Red Leader-Luke scene, Luke's training on Dagobah. I could live without it, but I'd like to see it.

The only changes I might keep are the views over cloud city, i.e., how it's opened up. I'd still keep the original shots of the MF coming in, etc.

But, essentially, there was nothing wrong with it before.

I'D KEEP

1. Digital cleanup
2. Removal of matte lines
3. Panoramic views of Mos Eisley and Cloud City
4. Improved Death Star explosions
5. "Episode IV: A New Hope" title
6. Extra Biggs footage
7. Extra Wampa footage
8. The updated Emperor scene in TESB
9. Celebration from the end of ROTJ

I'D BOOT

1. The Jabba scene from ANH
2. Greedo shooting first
3. Clutter and slapstick in Mos Eisley
4. Jedi Rocks musical number
5. Hayden Christiansan as Anakin

There are a few others, I know. Some of the changes (like the Bantha herd) aren't major enough to really have any effect on the movie. The scene with Vader returning to the Executor isn't fantastic, but I don't really mind it. There's nothing bad about the scene, but I feel indifferent about it.

I agree with most of your keeps and boots, but I would personally drop the new wampa and emperor things, since there are inconsistencies in them. They aren't terrible, though. I agree with all your boots. I personally don't like the Executor scene, though, because it looks like the Death Star bay and not a Star Destroyer bay (not that we ever saw one, but...)

Yeah, the Star Destroyer hanger bay is just a bit of footage from ROTJ with the Death Star, but with all the Stormtroopers removed, and the view outside the hanger opening changed slightly.

The new Palpatine did irritate me a bit ("How is that possible?") but it makes a little more sense now that I've seen Revenge of the Sith. As far as Anakin's concerned at the end of ROTS, the babies are dead. He knows of Luke's existance by the time of TESB, but he doesn't know that he's his son. Still doesn't explain why Vader doesn't get suspicious of the "Skywalker" surname, though.

NONE!!!

it's totally fucking wrong to change movies.

a little digital remastery is fine (i.e color grading, 5.1 surround mixing, dust and scratch removal, etc.) other than that, alterations to actual scenes is totally fucking not cricket!!!
