When Vader meets Obi-Wan in Star Wars his reaction is measured, level, even a little humourous. They fight but the general feeling is one of inevitability, not of anger.

Now we find out (I am told) that Obi-Wan at their last meeting sliced off a number of Anakin's limbs and walked away as Ani slowly roasted to death in molten rock. Also that Ani-now-Vader screamed like a baby when he awoke, presumably from pain and loss.

Does Vader's level reaction in SW now make any sense?

After watching ROTS, I feel the same way. When watching the original films, I had no idea about Vader and Obi Wan's history, so I just accepted what was happening. But yea, you'd think Vader would be totally pumped and pissed off with Obi Wan. Maybe he had confused feelings, and remembered that he did used to like Obi Wan? That is all I got!

There was a 20 year gap in between the fight on Mustafar. Or 19.5 years at the least. I'm not saying I have a real clue as to why the fight was not anger-driven, but I do have a thought.

Maybe Anakin, after being put into his suit, became so much different from what he used to be, that when he thinks back on the Mustafar fight, he sees 'Anakin' instead of himself, although knowing that he is indeed Anakin.

That sounds like quite a good explanation.

I personally think that Lucas just went crazy on the new episodes, and put in lots of action, effects and events which would seem 'cool' in those films, but when you look at episodes 4-6, the stuff doesn't add up. I really believe this is true of so much inconsistency; I think his view on the star wars universe has altered in some ways, and if he was to do episodes 4-6 again, he would do them differently, with more dramatic fights, more effects etc.

For instance, wasn't there some talk about Samuel Jackson asking for his own personal light-sabre with a different colour? I am colour-blind so I can't actually tell if he did have his own colour in the films or not tongue.gif but I heard that it was at least discussed. This would have gone against what Lucas originally wrote. ETC

I think you are right about if Lucas did go back and totally remake the OT, then there would be alot more epic fights and action.

Yes, Jackson requested that his lightsaber blade be purple, and Lucas let him.

as annoyed as i am with lucas attitude towards actors...

i do like the fact that when it comes to light sabres he does let people choose a handle from many, and when someone requests a color, he lets them have it.

that is pretty swell...

Mine would be a light green, kiwi color!

And while we're on the subject, I heard a rumor that Palpatine's saber would be black. How gay would that be?

A black lightsaber blade could be like a blacklight. That's how I would picture that.

You can't have a black lightsaber - blacklight is just UV light with a filter on it so it has no normal violet content like the ones they use in nightclub bathrooms to stop people shooting up. You could have one that was red or violet on the edge of visibility, but not a black one - ages back I conceived of this guy who was this ancient, force-preserved Sith Lord with no eyes, cadaverous skin, long grey hair and a black lightsaber but nothing came of it.

And in response to the original thread - it was a bit weird... Darth Vader was a much more cool calm and collected fellah than Anakin. I suppose becoming Senor Mechanisinado will do that to you.

I thought originally he had decided that sith get red light sabres, and jedi get green or blue? Or uhhh something? Regardless of how little I know, I thought he had decided on colours. And so he is going back on his original idea by letting an actor tell him what to do. I know it's not that much of a big deal.

HA, I enjoy the concept of people arguing about 'No you can't have a black light sabre'. Like light sabres are realistic in the first place laugh.gif I'd like to see a lightsabre which was black. Jinpachi in Tekken 5 has black lightning come out of his hands. And that is awesome.
