There are a lot of things wrong with ROTS, but I feel the best thing about the film is Ian McDiarmid's performance as Emperor Palpatine. This is especially true during the opera scene where his facial expressions and subtle eye movements were fantastic. A lesser actor would've been stilted, delivering the lines in a very wooden manner, but Ian was able to bring every line of dialogue to life. Kudos to him!

Ian McDiarmid did a great job as the Emporer. His character really was as he should be, and I loved how scary he was, and the chills his dialogue sent down my spine.

Ian's acting prowess stems from his career take-off as a commercial actor for various toothpastes and mouthwashes. His often grossly exaggerated expressions in commercials chronicling the pitfalls and pains of peridontal disease led to a 74% decline in reported cases in the UK after his commercials first aired. Ian was once respected as the greatest facial contortionist of his age until the early 90's saw the birth of the Jagermeister face actor, Roger Burkee. Now, Ian and his fans expect him to reclaim the top spot with his facial acrobatics from the Windu vs. Palpatine scene in ROTS. Congrats Ian!!!

I REALLY liked the job he did of being Chancellor Palpatine, particularly in ROTS.
The Emperor, as always, I thought was a little bit over the top.

But he's the embodyment of evil in the starwars universe, of coarse he's going to be over the top.
