Since GL is a fan of bad silent film acting, and opted out for a friggin' cliche 'Noooooooooooooooooo!', I thought it would be fun, and in about all cases better to add your own Vader ending.

Here's mine:

Anakin's lying on the contraption, he's a convulsive foaming at the mouth mess, he's scared doesn't know what's happening while he's coming to, he see the helmet coming down on him, he pleads with them to stop and fights the device bringing the helmet down with the force, he utters out a question as to what happened to padme, he finds out , tears run down his face as he still convulses, the camera follows the tears down to the breathing aparatus partially obscuring his mouth, they run doen his gleaming black armor, he stops convulsing, he stops breathing the camera follows the tears up to eyes simmering red!, he no longer fights the helmet coming down, he lays listlessly, the helmet is fitted, the Vader breathing ensues...

in this way he kills himself willfully, he can't live without padme as he said, he completely becomes Vader, a new being as Padme dies willfully of a broken heart.

instead i got frankenstein yelling no, something out of Hardware Wars

Think there is enough of this "lost the will to live" from padme lol. Generally I liked the ending (bout the only bit of the film I did like). However as always more could have been done. It wasn't all that terrifying and it should have been, there should have been bits of flesh being chiselled off that kind of thing.

I agree more should have been made of the mask coming down, dunno if crying would have been a good idea though, I mean this is a guy that got his kicks out of dicing up children.

I would have had Palpatine say "Rise Lord Vader" and made Vader get up under his own steam, rather than being helped up like some geriatric. I certainly wouldn't have had him walk like some 1950's B movie frankenstein.

As to Vaders reaction to Padme's death, I am unsure, maybe either a primitive roar of anguish (not the pathetic yell of NOOOOOOOOOOO), or if you were to take starwars as a comedy which Georgie Lucas seems to think it is, you could have had him say "the selfish cow she just didn't want to bring kids up on social security benefits did she".

That's a really good version, SPQR.

I think, that the giving of the babies to their respective families should have been incut with Anakin on the operating table. They should have cut the Frankestein scene, cut the bridge scene, and had the movie end with the shot of the helmet being placed and his first breaths in the mask.

Good point. The whole naming of Vader was weak, "I think I'll call you, um...hmmm., no...ok i got it, darth vader!"

He should have been named at the end

I agree, it should have ended with the helmet. The bridge scene on the Star Deystroyer had Tarkin, but it was gratuitous. Then Vader folds his arms and nods his head at the Death Star like an open air theatre actor making sure the guy in the back on the lawn by the tree knows what's going on.

REPOST

QUOTE
The helmet is lowered and placed on Anakin's head. His resperator is connected and the gurney is turned upright. Lord Vader regains consciousness and looks around.

Vader: ...Is...padme...alive?
Sidious: We are not sure, Obi-Wan brought her into his shuttle and left just as I arrived. My men were able to track them however....

//skip a few minutes forward:

Imperial Officer: [bows] Lord Vader, we have intercepted a transmission from the hospital ship we traced the jedi's craft to. ....Apparently Padme has died.

Vader: WHAT?!?!?!

[The imperial officer grasps his throat and his eyes roll back, he is lifted 3 feet off the ground by and unseen force. The room shakes. The young officer's feet kick as he struggles vainly to break free.]

Sidious: (evilly) I'm afraid your wife did not survive...how unfortunate. (smiles) But...we can surely make Obi-Wan and his allies pay....

Vader: Rrrrrrraaaaaaghh!!!!! [slams dying officer into the wall, snapping his neck with a sick crunch] Commander, all ships to their coordinates, now!. They must not escape! I want them alive!

Sidious: Goooood.

----Darth Vader doesn't get sad and cry, Darth Vader gets ANGRY and kills you!

I also thought it would have been nice if Anakin and Obi Wan had one final moment where they "sensed" each other, with Anakin lying broken on the operating table and Obi Wan on that ship with Yoda, etc.

It would have been a nice callback to the end of Empire Strikes Back, where Vader reaches out to Luke once he's been rescued.

Just one last moment where it's clear that Obi Wan knows Anakin's alive and offers him (albeit silently) a final chance to redeem himself, but Anakin closes him out in favor of his new master, Emperor Palpatine.

I dunno, i thought that might be nice.

I don't understand why people have such a problem with the Vader scene. A large part of him turning to the Dark Side was to try to save his wife. Not only did he not save her, but he also killed her. He is reacting to a disturbing truth.

Recall: In ESB, when Vader reveals that he is Luke's father, Luke also screams "Noooooooo!". Like father, like son.

Keep in mind that he doesn't instantly mature to the Vader we see in the OT the instant Anakin puts the mask on. People are just so desperate to see the old Vader. Suck it up, Anakin isn't there yet.

I await a legitimate defence to the point I made.

It has never been clearer to me than now that hardly any people here understand human emotions.

This would be an acceptable scene to people on these forums.

VADER: Is Padme all right?

SIDIOUS: It appears as though in your anger that you killed her.

VADER: No, I couldn't have.....

VADER: Oh well. That's unfortunate. But I'm Darth Vader now, the man in the suit. I can't exhibit any emotion. Let's go choke people.

I'll tell you why. It was ridiculours, that's why. It reeked of 1920's Frankenstein silent films. Unless Lucas was paying homage to these, it simply looks ridiculous.

People did laugh about it, that's a sad fact, all over the world. If you feel different, fine, but I vey much doubt if this scene was made to bring laughter from the audience. If it did, then it means that it failed to appeal not only bashers like me, but to average film goers.

He was, that was the point.

I would love to see you try to prove that.
