Nah not really.  Indifference to ROTS is nothing to be tolereated.  If you took the words Star Wars of ROTS, I'm sure this mediocre film would have engendered much more critism than it already has.  If the most and best that you can say about ROTS is that it is better than the two previous films, then ROTS really is in trouble.  Equally, to say it comes near, but not even close, to the original OT, again just damns the film.

Like I said in the review: Sith isn't the OT, and can't hope to be. Nevertheless, it is the closest we have to the OT. It entertains, and incorporates elements of Lucas' original vision, which the other two did not.

Remember--there's no way the prequels can ever be the classic trilogy, or even part of the same universe. Sith at least taps into it, and succeeds on that level if on no other.

I dunno, man. ROTS, in my opinion, hardly taps into this OT reservoir of cinematic goodness. That last few shots, when Luke takes Vader's mask off, and he sees that anakin has redeemed himself, and then when we see him light a pyre on endor, with john williams' amazing score in the background, THAT was great cinema.

ROTS just had lame moments puncuated by lame CGI moments. None of the dialogue connected, it was all poorly delivered, and I had nothing but indifference to the characters. When Padme died, I didn't give a crap. Anakin dies, don't care. All those Jedi get shot like they just got out of basic training: lameness incarnate. I was glad to leave the theater. A very bad feeling for a movie in the same series as the OT.

Personally, I think those that supported Lucas (McCallum, etc.) should be ashamed in ruining a franchise with bad movies and too much merchandising.

I'm just glad I have the OT on tape from the 90's. It's not as good as dvd, but it's the old Star Wars, dangit!
