QUOTE (Lord Melkor @ May 20 2005, 07:04 AM)
Also, you must remember, that Yoda told Anakin he should accept Padme dying!

Only Palpatine gave him hope!

yoda also told luke to forget about saving leia and han....

Yoda learned from his mistakes! And Jedi had the duty to fight for the Republic! And didn`t you like his speech to Anakin?

Whose speach, Yoda's? Like, learn to let go of all that you value? What sort of shit is that? Were they really that crooked, that if Yoda (which is unlikely) had any children, would he sacrifice them, not help them, let them die or what?

In ESB he never tells Luke to leave Leia and Han, hje just says he has a choice. here he does not say, think, trust your feelings, etc, but feeds him "learn to let all go" I mean, is he Yoda or St Francis of Assise?

Sure it's divergent from all the others. Apparently this cannot be commented on or you're dismissed as a Star Wars hater. Anyway, it was funny, almost as funny as the horrible Palpatine head first into a chair bad stunt take. By this point you have dismissed the teachings of the originals and go into a mental flat line an go along for the ride.

Well, my girlfriend said this speech was very Christian, and she is good on theology!

I assume by being "good at theology" you mean she got 6 from secondary school religious education?, (Sorry being sarcastic there)

SPQR - are you talking to me? What exactly do you mean, I could not quite catch your meaning?

No, I meant the fact that she reads Bible almost every day, and reads many Catholic books. - But she is pretty open-minded for a religious person, or she would not be with me, because I am not religious.

She really liked Yoda`s line about rejoicing when people close to you join the Force. She really liked Yoda in general.

Nobody says those teachings are easy!

You will drive yourself bonkers when confronting the numerous inconsistencies. Thereby you lose the ability to be suspended in disbelief in a fantasy realm. Instead you constantly are reminded of how things do not add up. a distraction which takes away from the movie.

You must flat line and drool like a hungry Pavlov dog.

I am quite surprised to hear those words from you SPQR, you seemed like a sensible person from what you wrote before.

I think you are mistaken as to what is suspension of disblief. I am suspending my disbelief when I see SW from the very beginning. There is no force, hyperdrives, lightsabres and Jedi, and I am not saying it is all bullshit.

But it must add up to some coherent system, if not from the technical point of view, then psychological point of view and from storyline point of view. I don;t know about you, but I cannot enjoy a story which lacks intrinsic logic and any semblance of human feelings. Can you? If you can, then it's fine, your life is so much more fun for the ability to enjoy all sort of pulp. But I just cannot switch off my brain, no mater how dazzling the light of lighsabre is...

No, I'm with you 100%

There are people on these boards who consider it heresey if you do not enjoy this plonk! They will try and explain away the mistakes in Lucas's connect-the-holes script writing till the bitter end. They just want you to enjoy the scene as a mindless flatliner.

I can't either, but I found myself laughing, a defense mechanism I suppose to counteract the embarassment!

That isn't really true. The people like that in these forums, are few and far between. Most of us are devoute bashers of the PT, yet some of the bashers found that ROTS was actually a pretty good movie, but with some big flaws. This isn't 'following over to the bitter end'.
