Please, I can see that you're really, really into these make believe worlds, but you really need to get a grip and stop apologizing for Lucas. tell me you didn't cry yourself to sleep after this disaster. I'm sure your Magic: The Gathering pals will agree with you, but i can't bro.
he's his father!

Wow. I never saw that one coming. Lucas never ran that one by us. Wow, what a revelation. Becuase, like, I was seriously wondering about Anakin's father. All of the mentions of him really built it up. Like how Anakin feels about growing up without having a father and how he never has a father figure. Yeah, there was a huge hole that this revelation was needed to fill. I really wondered about it after all the times Obi Wan talked about his father and it kind of caught me off guard.
Oh no wait, I got this film confused with Empire Strikes Back. Wonder why...

I think the problem is subtlety. Why did he have to explain mitochondrian ;-) manipulations and the whole in vitro crap?
Anakin's response: a blank expression with hints of indifference.
Sure it was coming, but can we not hope for a better world?

My guess is that Lucas, after Episode I, casted about desperately for some way to explain away his dumb virgin birth idea for Anakin. I've yet to encounter any favourable comment about that plot development, even from folks who liked Episode I. So he needed to give Anakin a real father and he went for the easy way out.

This pointless bashing is desperate and irratating. At no point does Palpatine say that he was responsible for Anakin. but somehow you take it as a gospel truth anyway.
Yes, the implication was there, but thats all it was. Funny how you're so quick to throw out Qui Gons explanation, which is the one I personally side with, in the race to see who hates Lucas the most.

Apologist. Maybe Qui Gon and Palpatine both used the same intergalactic sperm bank, and hence we'll never know.
I don't hate Lucas, I think he know's that this upsets nerds so much and he does it on purpose. It's his creation after all. He's obviously tired of all the geeks making his movies more than what they really were, an outlet for him to push technical effects to the limit.

Oh god, please noooooooo!!!
I cringed at the "virgin birth" doodad too. It would have been so much easier if Shmi's husband had just been some bloke who was killed when the pirates grabbed her and sold her into slavery, and left him as that.
The stupid, STUPID Midiclorian idea means that Force skills are a genetically inherited thing, whereas I preferred the idea that anyone could be born with Force-wielding potential, even if their father was Jabba the Hutt.
An apologist, BTW is someone who argues in defence of someone or something.

Apologist.
Yes I apologise for liking a film you don't! Have mercy master!
Qui Gons theory- Anakin was conceived by the Force
Palpatines theory which although it doesnt bear direct relation to Anakin does cast a hint his way- a sith was somehow able to manipulte the midis to create life.
So which theory is true? Well theres the basis for discussion. So assuming the answer was given in RotS and writing 'Palpatine is Anakins father!' seems to be badly missing the point.

It is left to interpretation, either way. But as far as my own opinion, I would like to believe that Darth Plaguies is the one who created Anakin.
